I know the Gillies too, Headnhome and C.G. Although, I haven't actually driven it myself...only been a passenger. My friends in Malanda whiz up and down all the time. They're used to it. Thankfully they give me the front seat, as that is a very good 'sick road'. When I drive up for the first time this June, I think I'll give it a miss, come back by Innisfail.
Sorry only just got home, the mechanic couldn't check it over till 5pm. Made the salesman wait back late for us. Make him earn his money.
Took a short list back of adjustments that were needed eg brakes need an adjustment, a few other little things, couple of little leaks. Not bad for its age they all thought. All will be done tomorrow. Daughter was waiting there when we got back to have a look over. S.in.L found the second battery and worked out all the connections and explained to me what I had to do to getting everything in the right place, like when stopped and when driving.
You wouldn't believe it! I pulled up in the park outside, another car pulled up behind me and my s.in.l pulled up behind that car. We all got out and walked inside to the caryard and we all walked up to the van. The other couple (in their 60s) looked at me and I looked at them and said sorry, you might as well go straight out the gate. They laughed asked a few questions and I explained we were taking to a mechanic for an assessment. They wished me good luck and many happy years of travelling. Wasn't that nice of them. Lovely couple.
I can feel the excitment from here from all of you. It would have to be a she, I think, but what would I call her. I'm Happy Wanderer so can't call her that too.

Congrats Marj! Well done! Just don't pick the names of Lucy or Gypsy!
I know I don't post much, but I often pop in and see what is happening.
Like everyone else I have been thinking about you today. Us lady solos have to stick together.
Of course it is a "she". As for the name what does the number plate say to you. Anything there you can make a name out of. Of course you could always get a personalised Number Plate, as in Marj, in purple, that would look absolutely great ... woo woo !!

I am so pleased for you Marj. I to have been thinking of you all day popping in and out of the forum to see if you have posted yet.Good luck and happy travels, keep in touch. Norma
HW, Congrats. I think you have made the right decision. I had a look and just all the extras you have on it makes it well worth the money. I'm sure that you and Pucky will have many happy trips in HER.
I thought of Gerty, Imagine going up the hill saying c'mon Gerty, but that wouldn't be fair to Gerty Dancer, so thoguht about how I got my name from the Happy Wanderer plant / vine in my back garden. Then right beside it is a Crepe Myrtle. I wanted something that sounded a bit eccentric and different, can't have Crepe so Myrtle it is. Wow. its great to see everyone is so excited for me. Can't wait to meet up with you all in my travels.
Mate, I got this name from my really old bomb car "Gerty" that I had years ago! Anybody is welcome to use the name for their car! I loved that old car, went lotsa places together.
And since she's gonna have purple trim, consider this poem - "When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple With a red hat that doesnt go and doesnt suit me ... etc. etc. I love the line that says - "I shall run my stick along the public railings, And make up for the sobriety of my youth, And learn to spit!"
You can google the whole poem by Jenny Joseph, but I think its just excellent!
Edited to fix my misquote!

I went to a couple of the Red Hat Society's meetings here a few years ago Gerty, as I always liked what they stood for, a lot of fun and a bit different. It was about the time I got really sick and I never got to go back. It is a fun poem but I can't remember all the words either.
Congratulations HW that is sooo exciting I'm really happy for you and looking forward to catching up with you and 'Myrtle' somewhere along the road to Qld
Morning guys. Yep I thought of that after I wrote it Purple Myrtle.
Can't go on the number plate yet as it has to be changed from a NSW Rego to a Vic Rego. Will wait to see what I get. Can't see the salesman there getting me personalised plates. I don't think he has that much of a sense of humour.
Good onya Marj I went past last night when you were looking at it but kept going. I dont think steve has a sence of humour but you should put Happy Wanderer on the bus so we will all know it is you.
still worth contacting the previous owner as they can tell you what they have done and where the van has been Ken
Interesting contacting previous owners, my landrover discovery was imported into aust when the owner moved here. I met up with him and then spent the 5 or 6 hours learing the history of my vehicle and its travels.. Turns out that vehicle had been om numerous 4 wheel drive trexs in Europe, plenty of good pics of its travels. Ended up with all the original leather bound owners manuals detailing the complete life of the vehicle. My previuos camper trailer had done two laps of aust. So yes very interesting to chase up prio history cheers blaze
You are right there Ken, he has no sense of humour. Everything I ask he says "It is what it is" "You have to remember the age of the van and can't expect this and that" That was even in answer to wondering if I could have the name and contacts of the previous owner. I said it would help as he could explain a few things and their workings to me.
"Well, it is not a new car and nothing after 10 years would be relevant anyway" No I said. But would make it easier for me to work a few things and save S.in.L trying to work out what they do. EG. theres a button somewhere on the steering wheel column that when S.in.L pushed it, the clicking sound went to the back door opening area but we couldn't work out what it was doing.
Also how the previous owner has set up the 2nd battery which is under the bed/seat behind the drivers seat.
I must say he is not very helpful and bordering on quite rude. I'm holding my tongue for now.
Did find out from another salesman the previous owner was Mal from Moama, presumably short for Malcolm.
Steve rang me before to ask who had we got to do the check. I said who the mechanic was and where his business was and he said Oh yes I know him.
Yet yesterday when I said who I was taking it to he said he had never heard of him.
The list wasn't that bad yet his tone was How dare he.
Oh well, car salesman can be a handful, they are known for being lets say abrupt. Tomorrow Myrtle will be mine then I will go get anything else done, like a good cut and polish.
I dont know why people deal with Steve as his attitude has not changed If it has all the books and records in it it will be easy to locate Malcolm and if it does not, tell MF that you want the info or else bad vibes will be entered on this and other forums stuff them Ken
We met 2 caravan salesmen like that. They had beautiful caravans for sale but they were just so hard to get on with we ended up buying a Jayco from lovely people locally... and saved many thousands of dollars.
Sorry you had to put up with that nonsense HW, he aught to have no customers, but when hes the only one who has what you want you have to put up with it.
You are right Gerty. He has the only one I can afford. There are a couple at the Caravan place, One 30,000 and one about 20,000 I think. Sometimes you have to bit your tongue. BUT Ken, Have asked for the service records. Can't find them, there is none he is saying and what difference would it make as anything over 10 years would be irrelevant. I said there has to be some papers to show recent service details, I said are you going to do a service when you do the roadworthy. Only if its needed he said. Ok so how do you know when it had the last one. We don't he said. Ok I said so why isn't there some papers showing its latest work. Don't know and not needed he said. So S.in.L rang him this arvo and asked if we could have name and address of previous owner. He said because of the privacy law he can't give it to us but if previous owner wanted to contact us he will give him our name and number,. He asked what for and S.in.L said to ask him some questions about the camping part of the van.
Then S.in.L went on line and checked the Motor Traders rules. It said They must give the name and address of the previous owner if known, to a prospective buyer when requested.. So S.in.L said don't sign any papers till he gives us the info. He will check it out again tomorrow with Steve. Whats he hiding?? If nothing why is he being so arrogant about it.
