Jimricho, they originated in Tassie and are all over the island state, now they are making inroads on the mainland (or as Taswegians refer to it as the southern island)..
I had never heard of Chicken Feed Stores until I was in Tassie last year and a friend took me into one of their shops. It was HUGE and well stocked with all kinds of things.
I recently went into their Bribie Island store here in Qld and (in my opinion) there was no comparison. I was born to shop...and I didn't even buy anything.
You'll be amazed at all the useful things you can find in there Jack. Not only non-slip matting, but we have a nice little broom, several buckets and bins and food containers, and a great folding laundry hamper, all from different versions of "The $2 Shop".
Thats a good point you make there. When my van comes I will need to get all those sort of things, little plastic containers and the like. I nearly started buying the other day but then I though STOP, I will only buy the wrong size, so its best to wait.
I might start cruising the $1 shops, goodness help me
Chickenfeed is in Seymour if you are passing. I find lots of interesting and handy things at $2/Reject type shops at much lower prices than the usual BigW or Kmart.

Chicken Feed was one of the 2 discount stores open in Dalby, Qld during the Mothers' Day weekend I spent there. Nothing else was open. I bought a 4 GB camera card for $20, as well as a couple of other "essentials". And I hate shopping! You just never know what you're going to find in those discount shops. A lot of the time it's the same quality as you'd get somewhere else, but it's the end of the line or left over stock clearances. Sam's Wharehouse is also Overflow. In Salisbury they're across the road from each other.
