My sons uses a bucket under his van outlet, and disposes of it down the drain at the caravan park, or if free parking he waters near by plants and trees with it.
He finds that if he just lets it drain onto the ground, the ground becomes soggy and muddy after a day or so.

Forgot to add that we use a sulage hose if more than 1 night, if only one night I back the van upto a likely looking spot and let it run straight out. In a park recently that had its black water in the laundry, didnt seem like a nice spot to empty black water expesecially when people were try to do their laundry cheers blaze
I dont Know Allen, for me its how its done. If I run straight out the rear of the van (where my outlet is) is backed upto if not into a patch of light scub and that would be the same place I would run my hose. Never drive away uncapped. So I think its how you dispose that counts. I would never do it to the discomfort of others but in this dry arid country ever bit of moisture that can be shared is a godsend to some of our plants/trees. The secret to is to use envoro friendly detergents and soaps cheers blaze
Happywanderer wrote:Alan, do people really do that, leave the drain open as leaving the park? Obvioulsy no consideration for others.
The bucket under then water the trees or plants sounds like the best solution.
Yes Marj I have seen it all too often in various places, just lack of concideration.
I say to Sharron to always put on shoes because no matter where you set up and think is a good site there is always someone else that thought is was either a good spot to dump grey waste or worse open door and throw a night bucket ( which have seen as well) .
Always cater for lowest denominator.

Somebody said he puts an old stocking (Does anybody still wear them?) over the end of their outlet and it catches all the little bits of food etc, then the water is a bit cleaner and can be bucketed or drained onto nearby bushes/whatever, and the yucky bit of stocking goes in the garbage every time they move.
I reckon thats a great idea, have used it, but I'm running out of stockings!!!

I think the problem with this forum in regards to posts are new ones do not automatically go to the top so everyone can see them when someone posts or makes a reply, especially if they are pages back, so if you want people to see your post or answer a query posting again is really the only option to put it on page 1.
Good idea blaze posting a link to any old threads if you can find them too.

we carry an empty plastic drum that holds 20 litres and put it under the outlet. when we leave we take it with us till we find a suitable place to empty it.
I don't care how many times people ask. I am still learning new things along the way that I never saw in an old thread, haven't even known where to look for it. Sometimes I have put a word or two in search and come up with some answers only to find there are more answers in other threads that didn't come up at all.
Hi I have installed a 150mm by approx 1.200l/m pvc storm water pipe under the van with a valve tap on the exit end this holds approx 21litres of grey water which we retain if in an overnight stop. When we arrive at our destination/caravan park we dispose of the water then, as we don't have a shower van this holding tank is good for 2 nights. Regards Jim.

Good idea Jim,
We have a 90 lt holding tank for Grey Water waste but can not see why you would ever let it get that full but it does give us a lot of wiggle room when it comes to when to dispose of grey waste
Sorry didn't know this question had been asked before what we normally do is have a bucket under the outlet pipe and water the trees and plants with is as has been said in the answers to my query but I wondered if this was appropriate in a self contained area. thanks for the help Helena.
Doesn't matter if this question has been asked before or not Helena. Answers vary at different times and with different experiences and it's all a learning curve EVERY time a question is asked or repeated. You go for it and ask anything you want to.
Sorry Helena. Didn't mean to imply you were doing anything wrong. Just thought it was a way for you to get some quick ideas as to what some other people do. It's also a fast way to find a topic you know has been on, but don't want to have to look through every Page to find it. That can take quite some time.

I don't bung my drain but I do flush it and the sullage hose out often, with hot water, vinegar and carb soda. I haven't found anything to cap it with that will stay during travel. Hopefully it's clean enough that I'm not leaving a stinky trail behind me through the park. In the park it runs into the drain, and once again I frequently flush my drains and the hose, and back flush to ensure all the bits have run out. If the grey water is left to run out onto the ground under the van it gets to be a stinking bog fairly quickly, and doesn't do the grass any good after too long. It's the rudest thing I've come across. Scraps should go in the bin before dishes are washed, and then the "bits" wouldn't be a problem.
Relocating threads on this forum would be easier if they were headed with an appropriate tag which provided a reference to the actual topic. While it's cute to put a "clever" heading, it's not very good for future reference, or even as an introduction to the topic. So can we please try to make the heading a direct reference to the topic in the thread. We have this little chat before. I personally would prefer this practice to be practiced.

I have a looooooong memory Vic. Just you wait till we are in your neck of the woods next year. You will have some explaining to do........
Now you know why I didn't go to Mudgee.....didn't want to get beat up
Now on the question of grey water.....short stays use bucket, emptied down drain when full. Longer stays sullage hose either in drain or if no drain with panty hose tied on the end or sometime plastic bag tied on end with small holes punched in the bag to let water out but no bits etc. Prefer to dispose of bits before they go down the drain if possible, but Murphy's law they will (like the time I dropped a grape down the hole, lol ! Had to poke a bit of wire down to get rid of it)

Thanks Sheba I really love this forum everyone is so helpful like most people I always clean plates and dishes off first with a bit of paper towel then that is easily disposed of in the bin then am sure that it is only grey water that is going over plants and on trees etc. Helena.
If you are worried about the stray food scraps that go through the grey water hose you could do as I have in the past tape a plastic shopping bag to the end of the hose and perforate the bag with a tent peg, this lets the water out but retains the solid scrapes. When leaving the site the bag can be wrapped and disposed of in the bin. The process is similar to the stocking method as mentioned before. I have found that shopping bags are more ready available than stockings. Regards Jim
