Shock to the system

From looking after a 600,000 acre 120km wide homestead 70km from the nearest town of Sandstone WA with the nearest human being over 50km away to now, being in Monkey Mia Caravan Park, surrounded by Apollo, Brit & Wicked vans plus of cause the normal caravans & motorhomes....what a difference. Though, no way are we complaining. It's a beautiful spot with tranquil beaches, magic sunsets & the friendliest dolphins. Some might hate it for it's so called commercialism & crowds but for a few days we're loving it.

Cheers
Jon

We found we liked staying in one of the Denham Caravan Parks,(the big one, can't remember the name of it now) not so many overseas tourist whiz bangs etc and a day trip to Monkey Mia was enough to satisfy us......we do remember there were a lot of midgies around though, bit the hell out of you. Nice spot though !!  Our site backed onto the beach with a walkway through. biggrin

We threw ideas around trying to decide where to stay as we wanted to see the dolphins a number of times, easier & cheaper on petrol to stay in Monkey Mia (stay a week & get the 7th day free so $210 wasn't too bad for a spot with a view of the sea). Also there are constant winds from the southerly direction which hit Denham and not Monkey Mia. We took a look at Denhem and were happy with our decision because the place reminded us of a hundred other seaside towns we have seen but Monkey Mia has a kind of resort feel about it which we enjoyed for a change.

Different strokes for different folks I guess

BTW, no midges at this time of the year but millions of flies.

Cheers
Jon

Sounds good Jon,

You obviously went into it thoroughly and made a choice suitable for you. We enjoyed Denham, a bit quieter and not so saturated with tourist as Monkey Mia, but we loved our visit to Monkey Mia too, not just the dolphins but the pelicans too. We went out on that catamaran cruise that visits the pearl pontoon? Was a great day and I recommend everyone to visit it or stay there if that suits them.

I parked at Nanga Bay "Resort" and enjoyed the thermal spa pool. It's 80kms to Monkey Mia, but the dolphins weren't playing that day.
Nanga Bay does a meal if you order, happy hour by the fire pit, listening to fishing stories and other stuff. I loved it there.

Jon,
We have found the Peron National Park is great to explore. Out near the Cape, the contrast of red sand dunes and cliffs, and aqua sea, makes for great photos. At Big Lagoon, saw huge rays and sharks about a metre from the water's edge.

We don't do much 4WD sand driving so we skipped Peron NP. We left Monkey Mia after a week & went to Hamelin Pool but stayed only one night. We saw famous stromatelites and as an extra we got a zillion flies & locust invasion. I hear the locusts may be all the way up the coral coast....bugger, maybe I should catch a few for the frypan.

Cheers

Jon
