Landcruiser 200 td V8 oil usage

Hello fellow nomads
There is a lot of talk about the excessive oil usuage in the LC200 4.5 TD.   Some vehicles are using up to 1.5lt per 1000km, levelling out to about 200ml per 1000km with 20000km on the clock using the oil the Toyota dealers put in the motor.

I read in another forum the usage is reduced when they (the owner) use Valvoline Diesel Super Heavy Duty oil.

Is there any LC 200 owners out there got any comments on the subject or any other problems with the vehicle.blankstare

The oil usage with the v8 has been there right from the start.I have a friend in a toyota dealership & according to him the problem is the oil seal in the vacume pump for the break booster,
This is a one way seal that alows oil to be sucked from the crankcase & vented into the exhaust.
There is a modified seal for it now but toyota has not done a recall to save bad publicity, however if you jump on them hard enough they will replace the seal.

Hi, Don't know if i'm lucky with my 200 series but it is miles better than any car or 4wd I have ever had. It is going in for 40k service and in 10k level has hardly moved on dipstick.... maybe .5 litre at most. fuel consumption is 11/12 litres/100 ks and gets better with speed. no dust and sticks to the dirt like glue....  I guess there could be improvements, but it is still the best available at present.

My old series 1 discovery tdi300 with close to 300 000km on the clock dosnt use oil between services. In saying that I have seen new massey fergusion tractors use what I would have thought was excessive engine oil, there was a calculation we had to perform and the allowed usage was very high in my opinion, it was something like 2% of fuel.
cheers

"Rosy" my 80 Series doesn't use any oil either.
The left swivel hub, however, does. Another job to attend to.
It will be the third seal since I bought the truck in 04.
My dream truck is the 4.5 ltr V8 diesel wagon.
