B y shear accident the stinray ended up in the boat and the flapping around would have been the ray tring to get back in the water, it would not have attacted. I have seen eagle rays skipping across the top of the water at great speed to to escape an attact. cheers blaze
I have personally seen rays jumping out of the water, and heard of a manta ray jumping into a dingy, but , honestly think you have more cahance of being run over by an elephant than dieing from being crushed by a jumping eagle ray. Then again the crocidile man was killed by a bull ray, so it makes you think.I think I,ll keep fishing til I die, and smell worse than I do now.
I have often meant to ask you: is that a Big Eye Salmon aka Ox Eye Herring aka Boney Bugga you are holding in your avatar? Or is it something more suitable for the table like a proper Salmon?
Used to catch Big Eye at Lucinda Point Jetty. You could catch them with a bit of cigarette paper or alfoil on a hook. Fight like a bag full of cats but only good for making fish cakes if you ground down all the bones.
I prefer to call them Tarpon as their relatives in the caribean grow to 200lbs!Can you imagine what a tarpon that size would fight like? We get a lot about 3kgs in Horsehoe bay where I live and they are great fun on small lures and light gear. As for eating qualities-A freind said its like eating cotton wool with sharp needles. Great sport, but not good tucker.Got a 70cm barra off the boat ramp, this morning.Yes, another name for them is OX eye herring or big eye herring.
