It's a lovely little shop full of lovely gift items. Wind chimes, cute little ornaments, all sorts of things. I hardly ever buy anything, but the ladies who run it are lovely and it just has a lovely feel about it when you go in. It's just after you turn into the road to O'Reillys. Had to look up the street,,Kidston Street, left hand side, opposite the park.
Will have to go have a look when up there, not far from Jules in Boonah. I thought Gilly meant she was already up in the Sunshine Coast. Got confused for a minute. Maybe better to stay down that way till easter over gilly.
Hi Sheba - a lot of people now use a ring cutter blade attached to a Dremel - quicker than hand cutting, but can only do straight cuts, I imagine "angle" cuts would only allow you to twist them one way? And none of my chain maille rings has ever come apart once made up - cheers

Hey Granny - no not private - but pretty boring, just research on companies that some people are apply for positions in, so they can pinpoint what to put in their cv's etc., just saves them time, and sometimes I find things they didn't know about, also helps me when I am typing their cv's understand what it is all about - as I say pretty boring really, and it's all pretty casual - these are usually top level positions - a friend of mine put me on to it when I did his cv for him. All private people, no agencies or the like - I let them deal with all that guff.

Marj and Beth - I like Canungra - bowled there the other week - we all played that badly they were going to make us climb the flagpole and put our nickers up ther!!!!!!!!!!! Haven't spent any time there, but have always thought would be nice to have a good look around there - maybe when you get up here Marj?
And Gilly - are you at the showgrounds? The managers there are bowlers, met them the other week. I reckon I would be staying put till after Easter, it is also school hols - and we all know prices usually go up then, or come on over Boonah way - our showground has heaps of room and pretty reasonable pricing - give us a pm if you are heading this way, and our mountains are wonderful!!

With Angle - cuts, its hard for them to pull very far apart That's how a lot of Jewellery is lost. They come open too easily if they're Straight- cut. Don't know about the Chain mail. Never had anything to do with that.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Hi folks .. yep .. I'm still gettin about ! .. arrived into Broome this afternoon and will be here for at least the next (2) weeks .. don't like to be on the roads over Easter !
Gee .. it's a little changed since I was last here .. pre "Cyclone Tracey" era .. nothing here is recognizable .. Its gonna be fun to look about though !
oh Jules .. I'm gonna also have to catch up with you for a game of bowls .. (I carry them with me but we'll keep that our secret ..) heh !
I'm already planning my next trip to west Oz for next year .. and thats to primarily concentrate on the coast area between Geraldton and Broome .. I travelled through too fast this time in the hope of caching up with friends that were intending to get here (to Broome) soon .. but they have now delayed their trip by another month ..
what a lovely country we live in ! .. its easy to enjoy

Well that seems a good place for all three of us to meet up. We could lunch at the Outpost and have a good old chinwag! There's also a lovely old pub, but I've never lunched there, so don't know about their prices. Also good pies in Canungra!
I paid $229 for mine at Angus & Robinson book store but they are available online from Sony. There are a couple of different sizes. I got the smallest one and find the screen is plenty big enough.
I have found a good site for getting books. They have a lot of free ones and also ones to buy from $0.99 each
I bought one for my grandie for Xmas from Sams Warehouse for $99. It also allows music and video clips which was great for a young girl. They had a 50% off after Xmas, I was tempted to get myself one.
I like the way they remember the page you were on.

Clare I will be going into the crashwords site, sounds good.
Like the sound of Cunungra, looking forward to a good look around. Would love to go up to O'Reillys to see the birds and walk that tree top walk but no way would I want to drive the van up there. Went up there years ago with my son, it was scary then, about 1997 or 1998. Very rough road.

No problem Marj, I'll happily drive up there. I only have a problem going up if I'm not driving. It's a good 'sick road'. It's a good road as such, but very windy.

Do you remember the Brand name Firefly? Remember seeing them advertised, but couldn't afford it at the time.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Wow! What a can of worms I opened up here! You have all shown another side to "Grey Nomads" other than setting up travel vehicles and making travel plans. You are all a fount of information and skills in many fields. Very interesting to share our knowledge.
Aw Jon, you're in my favourite country now. I love Broome and the Kimberleys. It's been very wet up there. Jeez, if you haven't been up there since the seventies you must be a bit overwhelmed by the growth and development which has taken place up there. The charm is there, I think, but it's a lot bigger. There was a huge building boom from '96, and is still going on. I left in '07. Enjoy. Check out the bowls club to see if they've started their season. Also check out the RSL, especially on Friday night. It's a great venue.

Hey Jon - love Broome - we actually stayed at the Pistol Club - it was being used as an overflow at the time - it was fantastic - customs guys came in for target practice, and club members had a skeet shoot one night - great entertainment.
And you are on for bowls - I've only been playing since Nov last year - so still pretty inconsistant - but I love the challenge - we have lovely greens here.

yes Jules .. its a lovely place .. but a lot bigger in size since I last was here .. about '71 .. hehe ..
Worked at the meat-works that were not far from where I camped now .. but really dont remember too much of it ..
another 12 days of this is fine .. its terrible when you're doing what you enjoy, and then you decide to have a holiday .. so one goes to a CP for the change ..
OK with the bowls .. only manage the occasional game these days .. but its a great past-time ..
The meat works is now prime real estate, just around the corner from the Roebuck van park. You'd be stunned by the housing right around town. Enjoy your time renewing your relationship with Broome.

Marj, Beth & Jules, yes Canungra is a lovely place, very scenic, I'm not at the showgrounds, I'm staying at a horse property belonging to some friends of mine but only intended staying a couple of days....fortunately I've been able to book into a lovely van park just inland from the sunshine coast not far from the Big Pineapple for easter, I'm heading off Wednesday morning.
Marj Canungra is definately worth a visit if you have time, great homemade pies at the outback cafe and as Beth mentioned Flutterbys is a great little shop to browse and the pubs not bad either, you can dine in the restaurant or have a bar meal, all seem to be reasonably priced.

There is a beautiful road up to O'Reillys from Beaudesert, it is a dirt road but well maintained and recommended to use four wheel drive vehicle, the views over the border ranges are fantastic

It must be at least 15 years since I was last up there. I only remember it being metal/stony and winding. Went with my son who is a bit of a lead foot, so you can imagine how much he enjoyed scaring the heck out of me.

I know that one well, Goinsoon. Duck Creek Road. I drove my Laser up there, in fact. It's fine when it's dry, although clearance is a bit tricky, but gets a bit boggy at the top when it's been raining. I'd actually rather drive that one than the 'good' O'Rielly's Raod. Yes, the views are magnificent, and if you have your car window down, you can hear the bell birds. I don't think I'd drivbe my 'Lucy' up now. She's way too low.
Hi all - Marj, Beth and others - I have been without computer for three days (like having arm cut off!!!) - anyway back now - nice to see this little post is still going strong!! Have to catch up.

Stayed in Mareeba for about a month in 2009 - had to go into Cairns to get something - saw three accidents in the city centre - couldn't wait to get out of there - used to live there when I was about 8 - many years ago - the airport didn't even have a shed - we arrived at midnight after leaving Sorrento in Vic at 4am - aunty and uncle met us, our bags were put off plane, we walked across tarmac, through a cane field, across railway line and highway to their house - couldn't believe it when we went back a few years ago - we stayed then at Lake Placid - hear there are sightings of crocs in the lake now - nice CP, nice area. But my preference would be to stay in Mareeba again. Where are you staying Yogi?
