Norma
We insured with NRMA for our caravan Norma, would assume they do motorhomes as well. With ours this time, they gave as part of the policy, car hire and accomodation if we had any claims away from home. But it does pay to shop around for sure.
Congratulations on your purchase mate.
How exciting for you.
To help with the other questions, it might pay to tell us what brand of motorhome you have.

I'm with CIL for insurance. They are worth checking out. Was previously with AAMI, found CIL a little cheaper, and I can pay monthly with them, whereas AAMI wanted annually.
Cant help you with venetians. Maybe check with Camec. If they dont have them, check your local caravan dealer, they may carry parts, or even give you a name of a supplier. Maybe do a google search....Google is your friend....
As regards the antenna, I had the Happy Wanderer. Not worth a cracker. Worked in the major cities but in country towns, forget it. Went to a local antenna installer. Told him my problem, he set me up with a pole, clip to attach it to the drawbar, and the antenna itself. Haven't yet found a place it didnt work.
I notice a lot of people are using satellite dishes. If you have a look at the ads in some of the caravan magazines, you'll find some of those. I understand they are quite effective.
Thanks rosco, it has a satellite dish on it already I did not know I could use it for normal tv, will get someone to check it out before I buy anything, thanks Norma
Thanks rosco, when did I become an antenna. Hope I'm worth a bit more than you say. Shady, good to talk to you today, all the best. I'm sitting on the banks of the narrabri river now.
We have the van insured with AAMI. We have been very happy so far, and when we made a claim a few months ago (hubby wiped the awning off on a tree) their response was very quick and no troubles at all.
Ken is right about venetian blinds. Even the slim line ones get really dusty and then if you park in the tropics a bit too long the dust turns to mould. I have pleated blinds in 2 of my biggest windows to dissipate the light and add extra insulation against heat and cold. If venetians are really your preferred blind of choice any window dressing place will be able to help you and make them to size. I'd avoid places like Camec unless you have lots of cash to invest. The pleated blinds need wiping over as often as you'd wash the curtains, but venetians nerd more attention more often, AND they rattle. When you're cruising along in your new home, I would think the last thing you'd want to hear all day is rattling venetians.

I have been with AAMI for years, was a Rating one for life, yet when I bought Myrtle they said they don't insure campervans, so I went to RACV, and found it really cheap. I pay 26.00 a month. I will need to replace all my curtanins too. As they are a cream with no blackout I'm sure anyone walking past would see me getting undressed. When I've been out to the toilets etc, on my way back there is Myrtle all bright lit up like a Christmas Tree and that is with only one light on inside. So another job I need to do. Can make them myself though.
I believe caravan owners can join CMCA as Associate Members with all the benefit except voting rights.
In regards to insurance, in the past I used CIL and had a couple of claims with them, they were very good and quick to assess and rectify damage etc, however in WA it was cheaper for me to have the insurance with SGIO as being bundled with my vehicles etc it made it a lot cheaper. I had no complaints about CIL and only went over to SGIO for the reasons mentioned.

G'day Norma, welcome to the site! seems to be a lot of newbies latley which is good so welcome every one I'll have to ask dad where we have our motor home insured . As for tv, check out see if there are any caravan shows on near by or check out jayco or winnebego dealers localy as some of them have shops that sell this stuff on site... have fun
Re the TV antenna, if you buy a copy of one of the many caravan/RV magazines such as "Caravan and Motorhome" (or any one of the others) there are are always ads in them for TV antennas.
Re TVs themselves, as well as caravan accessory places, shops that sell TVs such as HB HiFi, Retravision, etc, etc, usually have suitable small TVs that will run on 12v as well as 240v mains, some are TV, DVD combos.
Thanks rosco, when did I become an antenna. Hope I'm worth a bit more than you say. Shady, good to talk to you today, all the best. I'm sitting on the banks of the narrabri river now.
DOH, didnt make the connection Marg. Took me a while to work out what you were on about. Got my slow hat on today.
