You two have a wonderful trip. you will love the Geelong area especially the Waterfront around Cunningham pier, Great fish + chips across the road, after Geelong, if you can manage it try and do the Bellarine Peninsula[ queenscliffe, Barwon Heads, ocean grove] as they are well worth a visit. as for the surf coast, well you have to go through that way to travel the Great ocean road. Sorry about the weather we are putting on for you, this area is only good in winter, But FANTASTIC in summer. Happy + Safe travels Dazren.
Hi, We are heading across the Great Ocean Road starting on Monday, minus the van though
Leaving it at a mates place in Albury, driving to Melbourne, picking up Karens elderly parents from Airport and Moteling it for a week. Karens Mum is disabled and has special needs but has always wanted to travel the Great Ocean Road.
Then back to Albury to pick up the van and head along the Murray to SA.
Hope the weathers a bit better than here in Canberra at the moment.
i am also planning a big trip from Albury along the mighty Murray to the mouth in S.A
we dont kmow how long as yet as i am a keeeeen cod fisherman and could stay put fishing for weeks the question is do you have any stays planed free camp / caravan parks or stops that you have heard of from others i am really interrested in this trip and are trying to find out what ever we can THANKS
Have a wonderful time Ma and Blue....very envious. We 'did' the Great Ocean Road a few years ago without the van but didn;t get to stay long enough so it will be one of our first destinations in the new year.
"doing" the GOR without the van is a good plan as it's much more convenient for getting in and out of some of the viewing areas, especially the eastern section. I was there last year and travelled out from Warrnambool without the van to the Apostles and return. Later did the same from Apollo Bay on the eastern section.
Best of luck with your trip down the Great Ocean Road.
Mr Dunmowin and I did it about 16 years ago on a BMW K1100 towing a trailer - he proposed to me at the pub in Lorne. Have many happy memories of the trip.
regards John & Lorraine

DUNMOWIN is no longer on the road and still DUNMOWIN!
We decided, seeing that the weather is not all that good, cold, windy and raining, that we would just push on down the GOR and come back from SA and have a look a Geelong and surrounds on the way back.
We are now in Port Campbell so you can see we have nearly completed "The Road" but have decided to stay here for about 3 days. Blue might be able to get some fishing in and I am looking forward to some quiet time after all the hurley burley of babies being born and catching up with other family members. It was teriffic to see them all again but we do tend to be a bit selfish sometimes and just like the peace and quiet of being on our own.
Mind you we have done "the Road" a couple of times now but never from north to south so it did give us a different perspective this time.
So many nice little towns along the way you could take a couple of weeks to do it properly I think
That pic was taken last Tuesday Fly. On the banks of the mighty Murray River. DON'T ask me how we got down there, 4Low Range and then still slip sliding away.
Was a nice spot though.
Aren't you going to where ever it was you were going in July now?
How could you beat Darwin anyway. I'm really looking forward to this time next year we should be about half way up the middle by then.
I don't know if we will get accomodation up in Lawn Hill mate, I didn't want to book and tie us to a deadline yet again, and bookings are necessary and very pricey for unpowered sites too.
I still want to go look but not book in so it may be a few day trips here and there at this stage. I want to do Leichardt Falls for a few days as well and Gregory Downs.
Maybe we can follow you a bit of the way next year mate.

I must be a binge thinker. I do it a lot at times, then, not much at all.
The Gnome and us will be leaving sometime around the 20th April and will make SLOW progress up the middle to Darwin then back down to Katherine and then across to the West Coast. Well that's the plan at this stage anyhow.
Anybod else wants to tag along please feel free to join us. We don't do EVERYTHING together just usually meet up for happy hour at some designated spot along the road.
