I'm with you JohnM, I shop wherever it's convenient at the time. I have a BP Mastercard that gives a 5% cashback in BP fuel purchases so I don't bother chasing shopper docket discounts.

i shop mainly in our local woolies its all we have but we are getting an aldi built here in beerwah and i will shop there , i will never forget when everybody went mental and crazy at the idea of building a woolies in maleny due to the platypus in the river the trees etc etc need i go on, hubby used to drive past and yell out get a job to the people protesting he used to get so angry ,people put up signs we wont shop there stickers on there cars, you name it ,but guess what most of them do now its amazing same as when i first moved to beerwah we had franklins only and then they started to build woolies.
well all the people were going i wont shop there ,guess what its packed all the time, gave people especialy the young out of school and after school children a job ,you cant stop progress and its so true, at least we have the outback to escape to, and sorry peoples but so be it on the coastal areas it just grows and grows and there is nothing you can do about it ,if we want to be able to work to make that money to be able to go travelling aussie land then we have to have growth.
i cant wait for our aldis more so than for anything the biscuits ,they have the most amazing buiscuits and it will also give employment to our small town of beerwah.
May not be aussie owned but hey they employing aussies ill shop there.

Geez goinsoon !! you must be having a bad day, you seem a little
Aldi is not a one stop shop, they have been in victoria for a number of years, and are growing at a great rate, the majority of products that i have tried have all been excellent, the current affairs programs done a story on them a little while back, with the Aldi brands against the Coles and woolies generic brands, Aldi had a much higher local supplier base than the other two, and the basket of goodies was considerably cheaper, as i said they are not a one stop shop, but the quality is there for what they have, the same program also showed that the pricing at coles and woolies was only comparable if IF there was an Aldi in there area,,
Coles and woolies have been ripping us off for years, they have control of the complete food chain, they contract out the farmers and the growers, pay them a pittance, then put their huge mark-ups on [ sometimes 300 to 800 % ] and then to boot, they keep in in cold storage, to control the market, so we do not even get fresh meat and vegies anymore, But !!!! this is not enough for them, we all complain about the cost of fuel, who do you think controls and sets that price, Just look around at how many fuel outlets are going up under the supermarket banners, they already control the major share of the market, and are doing there best to get rid of the major independants, and when they do. Well i suppose the will still give you the 4 cents off ?? But it will be off whatever they wish to charge you, as You will have NO CHOICE,
No i do not think that Aldi is the bees knees, but they have gone into battle with the major two controlling entities, the will not win the war, but until the battle is over at least they are making the big two drop there prices when an Aldi is in the area. so i don't mind spending a few bob at Aldi's as there products are good and there prices are reasonable, and Nothat's a few dollars i don't have to give the big two, as they will soon screw us over and get back at us when they have full control
Geez, what a rant !!! i must be having a bad day to !! so good night dazren
No mate not a rant, I do buy some stuff from Aldi, but on the other hand I do not believe the crap the current affairs programmes put out, we check Aldi regularly and with generic products Coles in the main are cheaper or the same price as Aldi and Coles generic have more Australian made products than Aldi

A neighbour told me today that Aldi are opening in WA soon........we don't have them at the moment........doesn't sound to promising.....
A lot will disagree, but if you really look closely, you dont miss anything by not having an Aldi, and where do the profits go
OH!!! I KNOW GERMANY
Oh Dear,
Someone not too keen on Aldi, to each their own. As we live in a democracy we all can choose where we spend our money.
For ourselves, we do like to spread our shopping around and that includes Aldi. As a matter of fact we buy a range of staple good only from Aldi, and what they do not stock from Woolworth, not often we shop at Coles.
As I said to each their own yes?
The fact in the matter is, with multi-corps and the size of certain organisations now it almost wouldnt matter where you shopped, nobody could be exactly certain that your dollars wernt going offshore in any case. Even shopping at woolies and coles theres a good portion of stuff that comes from overseas in any case.
We don't make much in Australia anymore. China will end up owning the place at the end of the day, so I am all for Germany getting in on the act. I've only shopped at Aldi once, it was a strange experience & like the others they stock a fair amound of Crrrap!
Maybe the Aldi stores vary from state to state . In Qld. , they certainly have cheaper specials and some staple lines than the other supermarkets .
What we don't get at Aldi , we get from IGA .
Only shop at Woolies or Coles if there is no alternative .
I don't give a buggar who owns what anymore . Over the last 30 years a lot of Australia has been sold out . It's called progress , so we just have to go with the flow .

If you have only shopped at Aldi once Jack Biggles how can you know they sell a load of crap. Others on here have written how they bought great gear for their nomading. I shop there everyweek as their specials far outway the few items they don't stock. I can get a bag of at least 6, sometimes 8, avocado for 1.99. Why would I pay that for 1 at the major outlets. I bought pears there last week for 99 cents a kilo. Their sao crackers are far better than anywhere else. At least I can bite into them which I can't break some of the others with my hands. They are so hard. They have the most beautiful bread of all ranges and the price is always good. Why would I pay 15 - 20 dollars for face cream anywhere else when I can get a good one from Aldis for just 8.99. The thing is with all supermarkets, there is a place for them all. To each their own and who cares who owns it as long as we can get some bargains when we go there.
I spread my shopping around - sometimes Woolies, sometime Coles, sometimes IGA and sometimes Aldi. Some things in Aldi are not what I want and feel comfortable buying, but someone else may think they are great - all a matter of taste.
The weekly centre aisle specials can be terrific value - I recently bought some cast iron cookware very cheap (not for the van though too heavy) and a three step ladder that is very stable and rated to 150Kg which is more than enough weight bearing capacity for putting up the annex. This ladder was less than $50 - more like $35 I think and is more solid and of better construction than another ladder I purchased from Bunnings costing much more.
