Maybe just Maybe   He knew the cop as your friend did  and has had a few run in's in the pass  with him...  I hope this was not too be a feel good Post...I'v yet  to meet a decent cop...Though I'm surer there are a few somewhere......Most are too busy revenue Gathering.  Or dobbing grey Nomads into local Rangers too move them on

I've met and had to deal with some very polite, supportive coppers over the years.
Most are very compassionate, but become extremely intolerant when they are being attacked verbally and physically abused by some wanker. I've watched them prosecute some disrespectful delinquent in court, and then the kind-hearted Magistrate lets them off with a warning and a slap on the wrist, making the job even harder. We expect crimes to be punished, they catch the crooks, but then they don't get the punishment equivalent to the crime.
Some do take the uniform to some imaginary, inflated power level and are bullies in their own right. They are certainly out there.
It's probably the worst job in the world with the highest expectations from the community (peter public) with the most opposition from any law-breaker who gets caught, and the legal system doesn't comply. Who'd be a copper?

I haven't met an arsehole copper yet. All that I've met have been extremely courteous and helpful. It all depends on your attitude. If you are obeying the law and behaving yourself you don't have a problem. As far as 'revenue raising' goes - don't do the wrong thing and they can't revenue raise. The few speeding fines I've had have been all my own fault. I certainly don't blame 'revenue raising coppers' for my own mistakes. (and no - I am not a cop, nor are any members of my family). I have just been raised to respect them and not fear them.

OJ, did you actually get to finish your coffee mate, with all that rolling around.

I've witnessed these tirades and at times, been aimed at me for just doing my job. Its not overly pleasant and I'm not a copper, work with a lot of them though.

Great people but like all of us, they have their breaking point.

Reminds me af my recent run in with the law...

On a wet day last month I was toddling along in the Patrol when a dear young thing in front of me had stopped in the middle of an intersection .. no break lights or blinkers when I saw her  .. and started to turn right from the LH thru lane.  Buggar, the old Patrol without EBS aquaplanned into the poor little Tidia  ...

 

The Police officer who later attended, helped push her off the intersection, & had a quiet discussion with me.  He suggested that he didn't want to have to decide who was at fault  .. in which case he would have to 'breach' someone  ..  and indicated that of course that would probably be me.  If she & I did not dispute who was at fault then he would treat it as a minor traffic incident & therefore no ticket.

 

My insurance has a $500 excess on all claims without a 'no blame - no claim' provision, so I had nothing to loose.

 

Good copper I thought.

 

 

Paid my $500 excess & got a new $1700 bullbar plus a bonus rear tail light cover that had been broken for years, from the nice repair shop guy.

Well after 32 years doing that job Jimbo, and now retired, you can bet I've met a few people of who's attitude needed more than just a little bit of persuasion.

But then I guess your avatar says it all. A "Collingwood jumper". Could one expect any less!!

I trust you will never call them for assistance, if anything untoward ever has the misfortune of coming your way.

I post a report about a decent cop going about his duties in a supportive and friendly manner and you come back with the crap above.
Yes you're entitled to your opinions, but not at my expense.

The cop in this incident was polite to the extreme. 
Anywhere else in the world the bloke would probably have been belted and slotted.
I've met a few nasty cops in my time, but have found the new breed to very friendly, well mannered and polite under almost all situations.
This cop would should have received a standing ovation for keeping his cool, but we were to busy picking ourselves up off the ground.

I am entitled to an opinion sorry that it is not in keeping most ofyou       I have always called a Spade a Spade and will continue toMY Father fought in a War too give me that privilege..... Yeah every now & then I go & give th fish a Laugh & a feed .

But y do people have their prized fishing rod on the bull bar anyway???

I have beach rod that is a two-piece & th price of a couple of my reels .

I don't think I would like to leave them in view , only takes 4-5 seconds to

unscrew a reel . I thought " bullbars were for protection from critters wandering

on to th road , not a carryall . Oh & for Coppers - After 35 years as an

Interstate Truckie - I can't fault them , even th bloke that warned me one day

when I tried to be smart , over a disputed speed & then my log book , I had a

word about that too . He said "You keep talking Big Mouth , I will keep writing"

I did & he did . He stopped at $2450 . From an original $135 fine . No I did not

"arc-up" , I just tried to be smart with him , so smart , I talked myself into being

locked up .

Coppers ! They have a job to do , and it is an extremely important job .

There are good cops , and there are ordinary ones .

 Same as butchers , bakers , candle-stick makers , mechanics  . You name it . there's good and bad everywhere . Probably even good Collingwood supporters Jimbo . Haven't met one yet though .

We work with the cops at most jobs we go to and there are so many nice ones. You get the odd one you know is a jerk but I know a few of those in the fireys as well.

They jump in dragging hose or pushing cars or whatever job is there at the time. All our boys love the new regime of the "constable cuties" as they call the girls. Great girls, gutsy and tough and helpful.

A lot of these jobs are pretty ordinary as well and they do end up making you have a bad day. So you get a smart alec with the big mouth open and eventually something has to give. Its like the plebs behind the tape, I swear most times, its invisible because if you are behind the tape, you can't get a good look. The boundaries are pushed to the limit, then once told you will be arrested, the true colours come out.

I've had coppers physically stand in front of me at jobs, if they think things may get out of hand. We've been spat on, had things thrown at us, stuff stolen as we work and we have the easy job, these blokes cop (pun unintended) a lot of crap on most days. I wouldn't be one for quids, the works way too hard.

I guess also, with so many ex-coppers on this forum, it goes to show you, you never know who you are talking to on here, what they have done in their past lives etc. One of the great things about forums I suppose, you keep yourself private, unless you wish to share.
