I just want to say that I don't have a van or tent but I do travel and stay overnight in my car. sometimes I camp free or pay a small fee. sometimes park owners give me a discount because I am an older woman camping in the car and only ask for an unpowered site. I still have the comforts of home. My most outlay would be petrol. I plan to do short trips for now as I have just come back from England. Over there did 1300km inn two weeks in Ireland and 2200 miles in 2 weeks in England and saw all the sites I wanted to see. Bottom line, just because you don't have a van or caravan or lots of money shouldn't stop one from travelling.
Welcome Christina. I was initially going to buy a Motorhome when I came into an inheritance, then I let some-one convince me to buy a House, so I got a Forester instead. Was going to use that and an Oz Tent for travelling, till I felt the weight of the Tent, so I bought a Camper-trailer.
Never used that, so finally sold it and the Forester, and bought a Totota Hi-ace Campervan. Much more my style.
Just waiting to sell the house now, before I get on the road full-time. Only ever going to do what I want to from now on, not what others think I should do because of my health and age.

I agree with you Sheba ..I think we earn the right to do what we want now ..we rasie the kids and hopefully they are living happy and fullfilling lifes .. so time for us to do things we like to do now

Welcome foreveryoung. You have it in a nutshell. It's about the travel, not the vehicle you travel in. There are a few who would disagree with me, but however you're comfortable should be the way it goes.
Sheba you have summed it up in a nutshell. Do our own thing, within your capabilities, and not what others think we should do to suit them. I'm having serious problems with one of my daughters about this. My caravan lifestyle doesn't fit HER image, and I don't meet her fantasy expectations of a mother and granny. Stuff 'em!

Yep - totally agree - doesn't matter what you have, as long as it is right for YOU! Next year will be my year (hopefully), meantime off to Victoria for November with Sheba, and anyone else that wants to tag along, to visit Marj. Join in on the forum banter - offer your input when you want, and welcome!

Stick to your guns CG. I've wasted nearly 8 years that I could have had on the road already. Your daughter is obviously living her life how she wants to. [Or is she ? Maybe she's jealous.] You keep living how you want to.
Geeze I've been on a couple of Soapboxes tonight. Better shut up for a while.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Welcome foreveryoung, I am a newbie also, and they are great people on here. It doesn't matter how you travel as long as you are doing it, sounds great to me!! I would be so happy to do that, as we dont have a van also, just have to convince my other half. Wish me luck!!
Cruising Granny,
Gosh give me the lifestyle on the road and seeing our great country anytime, life is for living, and doing what makes you happy. Our kids know we are there for them if they need us..
Welcome Foreveryoung. I know you will enjoy it here. Like you other ladies I too should have done what I wanted about 7 or 8 years ago and I would have been travelling around in an at least $50,000 motorhome or coaster. Instead I listened to my kids who didn't think I was capable, just a silly old fool that didn't know that I was old and past it. I will show them now.
HW don't let anyone tell you , you are too old to travel as I think that Me and Bill are the Nanna and Granddad of this site as the few Nomads that we have met will probably agree while you can do it just get out there and enjoy yourselves we certainly do. Helena.
Welcome Foreveryoung, your in the right place here.
I must say that you ladies are an inspiration to me, whenever I feel I am getting too old for the lifestyle I read your posts and it gives me a reality check !
Thank you all !!

Welcome Foreveryoung! It's taken me about 18 months to get myself in order, van, family etc to get on the road and I'm still not out the door! You put me to shame :) and Yup I find my gorgeous grandkids are the ones giving me the most encouragement wont mention "the daughter". Hopefully out the door within the next 7 days and see you on the road!
Ah don't let the not having a tent, van or bus stop you. I've seen stacks of people camping and travelling in cars. I met a young lad near Halls Gap few years back doing just that and he was from Queensland. And he had a little Laser hatchback - cramped he was but as happy as a magpie in a puddle.
Thanks all for the feed back didn't expect anyone to actually read let alone reply. Just so great to hear from everyone. The car is quite comfortable as I have put a bed in the back with the seats down and it goes into the boot, it is a memory foam mattress with a slab of deep density foam under that to bring the boot and the back seats in line. When it gets dark I have a caving torch to light things, also use computer, DVD, kindle, DS to keep me occupied when it is dark. Have just done 1000km in the last 3 days. Went up to Bunderberg, then to Mt Perry then down to Eisvold and then home and that was when the temp went down to -5. Must admit that the caravan park land at the last stop insisted I stay in a cabin as she thought it too cold to be in the car, so paid for powered site price. She was a very nice lady. So hope to meet you all on my next big tour which I hope will be to Mt Isa. Previous occupation was rural and remote nurse, so was used to taking off on days off in the car to see the surrounding area where ever I was. Love travelling. Cheers foreveryound
