Left home today (near Hobart, TAS) for three months on the mainland. A stopover of a few nights in Launceston, then on the Spirit to cross Bass Strait on 20th July. I intend travelling up Kidman Way to Charleville, turn right and continue on to Brisbane. I'll base myself in Brisbane, doing trips from there and return to Tassie in November.
My 'home' is a 1999 Toyota HiAce poptop 2.4L petrol manual, packed to the gunnels with everything I think I might need, - my first journey, you see. The fitout suits a solo journey well, with the exception of power: It only has a small house battery with a 1.8A charger and a oneway fridge (12/24VDC). A new experience, a lot to be learnedand an interesting challenge.
I've followed this Site for a while and it has been a great help - thanks to everyone out there!
Attached photo of Mt. Wellington taken on the morning I left.
Hope you have a great trip Loki. The people next to us in Shepparton have just come over from Tasi to pick up their new van and taking it on a shakedown trip. Keep us all up to date with your travels. I'm sure there'll be tips and suggestions for places your passing through. Happy Travels.
Have a great trip Loki, your inhouse battery/charger may be ok for a few days in one spot without power for the fridge, then either the next leg of your trip or 24V power hook up (Caravan Park) will be enough to charge it back up again, and of course the fridge is ok when you are mobile.
12V/24V is a two way fridge (not a one way fridge). If you had gas it would be a three way fridge.
Happy travels.....

Thanks everyone, just to answer the fridge querie, it is only DC. It will run on either 12 or 24 volts, but Direct Current only. I think it has to be pre-set as some caravans/campervans are set up for 24 VDC, mine is set for 12VDC.
I have a new 105AH deep cycle battery and a new 16A 'smart charger' but now need a solar system or a generator; my preferred option is solar, and that ship is still sailing toward my shores.
Good trip Loki - and make sure you take some time to head out the the beautiful Scenic Rim while you are in Brisbane - heaps of camping out this way - and scenery to die for - lakes, mountains, we have it all out here.

if you are heading via roma, you can camp at muckadilla, was $10 for a powered site, there is a camp about 5ks west of roma that is free and wallambilla has a camp ground that used to be free about 40ks east of roma. the big rig park in roma is probably the better park there.
The photo is taken from the beach out my backyard: It is Mt. Wellington taken from Shelly Beach, Ralphs Bay in Tasmania. Many probably wondering why I wanted to leave such a place, however, sitting here in Morvern QLD there is NO SNOW!
Also, Congrats to Jo - glad you took that first step and are having a great journey! I've had a great trip up the Kidman Way to here and should be in Brisbane by the w/e.
Thanks for those kind words Loki, hope your trip is still going well. Hope to be at Cape Keraudren soon, spent many happy weekends there in the early 80's. Was looking at some info on the net and read that crocs have been seen there! maybe put the computer and coffee on top of the hiace!
