RE: How things have changed . . .

Going to the grocer's with my grandmother and getting a small bag of broken biscuits - she used to take her shopping basket and the grocer would get things off the shelf for her and I would sit on the counter and watch - I was very very young at the time.

Spending most summer days at Williamstown beach with my mum and brother and the family up the street.

Doing my swimming and lifesaving certificates in the sea - sometimes through the jelly fish(until the swim club built a pool).

I remember getting my first sewing machine - hand operated or foot operated using the treadle - I think I was 8 or 9.

Riding my bike to the beach 3 or 4 miles away with the boys up the road - I was 9 or 10.  We could all swim like fish.

Outdoor toilets and the "dunny" man coming to empty the toilet.

Riding my bike to girl guides at night by myself.

All the kids in the street used to play together.
