Getting Ready for a long(ish) trip

I mentioned in another post that we are soon to head off to Hawker for a flight over Lake Eyre & an overnight at Birdsville and then back home to Brissie via the East coast.

So I started today to get the rig ready for a touring holiday.

First the clean out ....

For the last year or so we have only been doing short trips to the North coast of NSW & the near north of Qld.  Often going with the grandkids & stay for several weeks.

As a result the van has slowly filled with all sorts of stuff that won't be required for the sort of trip we are taking next.

I have filled the first bag with stuff like .. cricket sets; Boole' set; books on fishes, birds & shells, each one the size of an encyclopedia.  We have four heavy glass salad bowls; 6 coffee mugs;  Masses of linen; Several extension leads; 6 fishing rods & reels;yabbie pump & siv; three day packs; 4 chairs; two tables; 5 or 6 tarpaulins of various sizes, some with poles  ..... on and on the list goes.

I bet that we spend the first week or so saying 'I wish that we had brought so & so'.

But it must be done.

Then its on to the poor old Partol, grease and oil change for engine & transmission; fix cranky starter motor; regrease front wheel bearings .. never been done before.  Check break pads etc. etc.

Next is the turn of the van .. wheel bearings, check break linings, ensure all fittings work, clean water tanks, check electrics, remove surface rust fron A frame; fill both gas bottles; clean water tanks  .. on and on it goes.

I'll need a holiday when i'm finished.

But I love it!  All part of the fun.

From the Flinders it's only a 6-7 hour drive towards Adelaide to the park where I'm living.
Or, we could meet up the road somewhere. A bit cold for camping up there at this time of the year. It really is beautiful in the Flinders Ranges. Safe travel.

Thanks. I'll look forward to it. It'll be a couple of years since I saw you and Mrs. C last. It's my turn to put the kettle on.
