Make a lot of noise! Yell! Scream! And keep yelling until someone comes out to tell you to shut up. At that time they'll find out why your'e yelling. Vans and tents don't conceal much sound. The perpetrator will probably run away fairly quickly to avoid detection. Be observant. If you have a chance get some sort of description, something specific about their appearance, vehicles, some clothing, although they can be changed. Weapons can be used against you. You can injure them and make them retalliate and do you more harm, oven kill you. Once again, be alert (we need more "lerts), look around, listen. I always check out unusual noises. I can't relax until I identify it. Even living here in this busy park on a busy road, there are strange, unusual noises which raise my curiosity. Self-protection is the name of the game. Don't endanger yourself using weapons to confront an interloper. You could lose.

Wasp spray for self defense is a bad idea. It is a myth! Stick with the Pepper Spray. Wasp spray is unproven and has never been tested on humans. Wasp Spray will NOT work on those who cannot feel pain i.e. drugs or alcohol. Pepper Spray is an inflammatory which will cause the eyes to slam shut no matter the situation. Thats why over 40,000 law enforcement agencies carry it nationwide and even the smallest canisters will fire 10 ft while the larger canisters will fire 25 to 30 ft.
Thanks Florinhill, Dunco and Mike. Dunco, are you offering to train us with pepper spray? Be the guinea pig? (just joking).
All I've ever carried is a Dolphin Torch, not so menacing as a baton torch (which you are not supposed to use as a baton, police excepted) and have found the Dolphin ok for my purposes. Even used that in a security job I had even though I had a baton one too. Get a smack in the face or head with a Dolphin torch and you will know it.....

Thanks Wombie. That's my thoughts exactly. It's a bit like "a round tuit". One day I'll get around to it. I have seen the "round tuit" as a plaque for sale at a market somewhere. Then there's the "gunna" and the "fuller". Gunna do, and full of .....

Take Granny's advice and make lots of noise - but I was advised when doing a self defence course to not yell "rape", instead scream out "fire" - people are more likely to respond. Also - if someone comes at you - swear at them, call them all the bad words (my favourite is axxxwipe!!!!!) - make as much noise as you can.
Got one of those "tuit" posters for a friend of mine years ago - he eventually "got around tuit", and built his own house!!!
