RE: Free Camp Site Loos

Hmm, my thoughts. I think one should consider themselves lucky to have found a free camp. If people want amenities than they should pay to camp. Alternative option is to just spend the dollars and buy a porta loo.

What ever happened to being grateful for what you've got?

 I agree.

I once complained about my shoes until I met a man with no feet.

When I was an infant we lived on a farm. Had a thunderbox down the backyard, a few months later it was over the other side of the yard, and a mound of dirt where it used to be. This was a regular occurance. Cant remember sawdust or dirt, just newspaper that had been torn into squares and stuck onto a nail. Used to sift through the papers while I was sitting, looking for a likely photo to wipe my b.. on.

Just reminiscing.............

And nowdays I say I have to take a newspaper to the loo incase none is there and so I can tear out some squares. Thats my story anyway

We have a portaloo, and one of the pop up tents, and use it when there is no other alternative. We use the appropriate chemicals (we don't try - yet anyway - to skimp and save on this aspect and use the branded stuff which works well) and then dispose at a dump point.

The chemicals work well at dissolving any solids and removing any smells beyond the chemical smell itself. This makes disposal a much less unpleasant task.

Carriage - well I had a canvas "box" made that the portaloo slips into and then it is stored on the roof basket - I didn't fancy keeping it inside. This works well for us, but it might be less easy for anyone shorter than my 6'4" height.

Read your post with interest Joe.
Firstly theres no way I could get my portaloo up into a roof rack. Mine travels in my van, in the sa me place where its used, has no smell and the only thing I use is napisan and a few drops of Eucalyptus Oil. Always smells pretty.

It's unfortunate you've found this a problem.  Personally I've had the opposite experience. By and large most of the freecamps I've visited have clean loos, but you need to bring your own plastic table cloth if you want to use the table/chair setsbiggrin

Porta potti is a godsend if you ask me. Bought a 10L one from BCF for just $69 (have trouble lifting 20Ldisbelief).  Beats going out in the middle of the night and gives a clean alternative if the public loo is on the nose.

my dad used to go crook when he went to the can and there was no news paper on the nail as I would cut it down smaller and use it for the rabbit traps was easier than having to find paper and cut it up for trapping lol
