New Tug- when can we tow with it

Can anyone tell me if we can tow with a new tug straight away, or do we need to wait - perhaps until we have some kilometers on it?

I have heard that we need 3000 kms on the car before we set off.

We ordered a new diesel ford territory in early July, and as delivery keeps getting delayed we can't make any definite plans to take off again.

I think you will find that the manual says about 800km, but I waited until after my first service...1500km

I would certainly get a couple of thousand KM's up before I set out. First service by dealership to fix those usual quirks. It doesn't take long to run up(well...not in WA, anyway)

I WOULD get at least 5k up , diesels are a 'slug' until they warm up .

They are even worse until they run in a bit from new . Our new Toyota

l/cruiser 4X4 fire-truck has 8k & is just starting to pull a bit better ,not

to forget it is Loaded up to Max weight ALL th time  .

Thanks- I asked the dealer (silly thing to do I know) and he said just a hundred Kms or so....... he said modern motors don't need to be "run in".

I think I prefer to ask the experts ! lol !

 The dealer needs to read the Territory handbook.

"To aviod damaging the new vehicle, restrict the towed mass for the first 3000Km of travel, and the permitted towed mass can be gradually increased as shown":
First 1500km - 500Kg.
1500 - 2000Km - weight can be slowly increased to 1200Kg.
2000 - 2500Km -      "        "    "      "           "          "  1600Kg.
2500 - 3000Km -      "        "    "      "           "          "   2300Kg.
NOTE: A WDH must not be used if using the 1600Kg tow bar goose kneck.
