It should have on the side of the tyre what pressure you can put in the tyers for the load

On the side of the tyre it will have the max pressure for the max load carring capacity of the tyre, you may even have to look at a light truck tyre. when towing I run 50psi in the vehicle
cheers

This is what Bridgestone say for car tyres, probably where you saw the 4PSI rule;

 Do a search of past   posts on Tyre Presure.

Search  Button in the Blue Band at the top centre of the page.  Type in Tyre Pressure or something simmilar.

If you're putting a slide-on onto a ute, eg 1 tonner or similar capacity, it should have light truck tyres on it.
If caravans have to have light truck, I believe a ute should have them too.
Then run them on the recommended tyre pressure, plus a pound or 2 for the extra weight when loaded.
The total weight of vehicle with slide on will weigh at least 1 tonne loaded.

Glen i have a millard slide on weighing over 1tonne sitting on a 4x4 single cab bt50 have added air bags , heavy duty 4x4 shocks and yokohama light truck tyres. Changing to the light truck tyres made all the difference.
