Another very amusing bird is the Great Bower-Bird. There was a male with his bower behind our caravan at the Broome Bird Observatory, and he kept us entertained for hours. He spent so much time decorating his bower Just So, doing his little dance for the ladies, and driving off other males that we started to wonder if the poor blighter had time to eat!!!

I've given up in frustration trying to photograph birds, have had better luck with flowers as they stand still a little longer! But my frustration makes me understand just how good your pictures are Garry and Glenda.

Some info:

The Port Lincoln Parrot is the nominate race, the 28 Parrot that is found down in the sw of WA is the race "semitorquatus" which is almost identical but larger and darker and has a small red mark above the bill.

My over zealous husband just quoted that!

Oh no. Always happy to be corrected by technicality. There is so many very fine details between some species that it's hard to be sure sometimes, especially when the eyesight isn't good and the bird won't sit still.
I miss the curlews in Cairns. There was a resident paid in the park which regularl reproduced and parented the chicks with due dedication. People could learn a lot from curlews and many other species.
Frogmouths are another.
The cou cou pheasant isn't one of them. Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop.

Dear Gerty How wonderful you stayed out at the Bird Observatory. Did you do any of their tours? We tend to do it alone. We went out for a couple of visits. So fantastic that you had the opportunity to watch the male bowerbird attending his nest. Did you take any photos? There was also a pair of ospreys nesting on the light house structure at Gantheaume Point. We really like bower birds as well. The Regent Bower Birds at O'Reilly's and Binna Burra are fantastic. A real treasure for this trip was photographing the Goldern Bowerbird. I like to take flowers as well, but have really missed the wild flower season this year. Thanks for the positve feedback re the photos, but lot and lots of blurs happen as well. Cheers Glenda

Cruising Granny Are you talking about Crystal Cascades? They have resident curlews. Wonga Beach Cp is another area. When we were in Cooktown the were running across the main street. Fascinating birds. There are some photos on our blog. Yes most are dedicated parents. Cuckoos are also terrible! Do you keep track of bird sightings? Cheers Glenda
