I find it difficult to even talk about. Brings back too many memories. I choke up everytime I watch it.
The NZ maoris deal with family deaths in the same way, the singing, wailing, and offering everyone else food as was shown this morning when the reporters were there. They open their hearts to everyone who comes near.

Me too Ma - devestating event, I feel so much compassion for the extended families, and the ones left behind.

Went to a concert last night by Eric Bogle, he sang two songs he had written about the Black Saturday fires in Victoria in 2009 - his words and music bought it all back to my mind, we couldn't stop watching the tv - and we couldn't stop crying - we had friends who lost their home in Marysville, it had been in the family for about 4 generations - their caravan, everything, but they survived!

Again, sympathy goes to the bereft families here in Brisbane.

I was part of a Maori family for 9 years. Tongans and Samoans are also very emotional people.
To learn one of the affected families had been outed by the floods is just too heartbreaking to comprehend.
I too well up and feel the emotional impact every time I see and hear the news stories.
They have a strong faith and family connection.

I watched the news story with horror and disbelief...
and, like many others, shed quite a few tears in the process.

How do you recover from something like that....

It is so very hard to understand the grief that they must be going through it is hard enough to lose one child but to lose a complete family is unthinkable like others on the forum I too cried with them Helena.

Such a hard thing to think about. How 3 managed to get out but everyone else was lost.... all those children.

as a firefighter.......I've seen what house fires can do......deadlock doors......roller shutters....security bars on windows......bolt locked windows you need a key to open..........no smoke alarm.........all hinder exit to safety.......I've seen children lost in a house......you find them under beds...in cupboards....some unfortunately didnt make it

In 28 years.....I've seen more that I'ld like to remember......

My heart goes out to those Firefighters, Ambulance crews Police and everyone else involved in the removal of bodies. It must be horrific. Something they would never get used to.
