Hyperlink - how to please

Hi, can someone please tell me how to make an internet link active on the forum please??

Up to this point I have done it in Word and cut and pasted it across BUT there must be a simpler way,

Thanks in advance

If you write wombat in search and check some of his posts you will find the instructions. He has put them on here many times and I still can't work it out.

I  just click on the Page box [ beside the printer, top right-hand side], and in the drop-down box click on "Send link by E-mail".

When the E-mail box appears with it, select and Copy the Link .  Delete the E-mail box, then paste the Link in the reply section.

[It is simpler than it sounds.]

Trying to follow your instructions Sheba and can't for the life of me even find this printer on the top right hand side.

Are you using Internet Explorer ?      On the toolbar that has "Home", & "Read Mail ", next is "Print."     After that is " Page"' which, when you click on it, has a Drop-down Box headed " New Window."  That's the one.

Then again, you probably use Windows 7.  If so, that won't be any use.    Sorry.

Cheers,

Sheba.

One way that may not be the simplest but works for me, is to type or copy in the link in the post, then submit. If the link can't be clicked on to open in the new post (for some reason sometimes it can), then edit the post, put your cursor behind the last bit of the link, hit your space bar and move it one space and it will turn blue/purple, then submit again and the link will be ok to click on.

Step 1 - If you want to copy a link in the forum go to the page

Step 2 - in the top bar you will see http an example it will look like this

http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/p/edit/?commentID=44721786&topicID=44717710&page=1&type=userUpdateComment

Step 3 - go to the end of the string of words and numbers and put your curser at the end

Step 4 - click once and it will highlight in a dark blue

Step 5 - press CTRL (lower right hand side of keyboard)and C - this will copy the link

Step 6 - find the place in your post ie. where in your document you want to post and press CTRL v - this will paste the link into your post.

Step 6 - the link is only active if it looks like the above link (ie.  it has to be underlined and will normally be a different colour)

Step 7 - if it doesn't look like the above do the following:

7a)  post the reply

7b)  Go to edit and once in the editing post it for some reason changes the link

7c)  once you can see that the hyperlink now is underlined you are ready to re-post.

Hope this helps try it out.  Curious to see if it works for you.

cheers

Leanne

I found this the easiest method:

Try placing     [ u r l ]   at the start of the link &   [ / u r l ]     at the end of the link but WITHOUT THE SPACES IN BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS.  And thats all you need to do

EXAMPLE:   [ u r l ]www.the link you want.com.au[ / u r l ]

(I had to put spaces in otherwise it would have become a link & you wouldnt see the method).

The help section link below is handy for these things

http://www.activeboard.com/misc/howto.spark?aBID=51933

Hope this helps

Cheers

Jon

I hit the REPLY button and copy and then paste the link

if its underlined you have made the link active

This is the problem....it is not showing as a link which is why I have been doing it in Word and then copying and pasting into here.

testing your theory Leanne.

EDIT:.....nope, does not work.  Think by the look of this it is still the easiest way by copying and pasting from Word as I have been doing.

Control C and Control V is just the same as a standard Copy and Paste HW only using keyboard strokes as opposed to mouse applications.

Yes I do it all the time for copy and paste.
I thought if you did it with the address in the url it was supposed to make a link.

I type it each time, just a matter of remembering it.

Unless someone shows me a one button or mouse click way of creating a hyperlink  I'll stick to this method.

Cheers

Jon

I copy the link you are after, paste it into the reply box, then highlight what you have pasted.

Look up to the tool bar and you will see two icons that look like a chain link, one broken, one not.

These two icons, once you have highlighted the URL link you pasted, will then become live.

Click on the UNBROKEN chain link.

It brings up a box, recopy and paste the deired link in there and hit the insert button.

You will then have an active link.

It does sound complicated, I thought it was, but do it a few times and its easy..smile

Marg, if it had been mine originally, I would have posted it and then done an edit, then put my cursor behind the link and hit the space bar to move it along one space, then it highlights and then submit and bob's your uncle.

In the case of your post, I did "quote" (your post), and then did as above behind your link.

May not be the best way to do it but it works.

 This is the way I was talking about, try this;

"Marg, if it had been mine originally, I would have posted it and then done an edit, then put my cursor behind the link and hit the space bar to move it along one space, then it highlights and then submit and bob's your uncle."

You need to post the link that doesn't work, the do the edit as per above and submit again.   Hope this works for you.
