Got the new colarado, love the car, hate the mirrors, Does any one know of a place that will change the side mirrors from the convex [ crap ] to the standard mirror glass ???
Would prefer someone in the Geelong Vic region, or western suburbs of Melb
HI Dazren, firstly, congratulations on your new vehicle, I hope you have some wonderful journeys together!
Ok, like you I hate convex mirrors and I fail to see what they offer when trying to judge distance of vehicle behind when changing lanes etc....others like them. However, it can be overcome but like all things....at a price.
I was quoted $88.00 per mirror at windscreens O'Brian(any glass dealer would do) for a triton ute, so I would imagine it would be similar for the Colorado. I had always thought the convex mirrors by law had a warning on them about "vehicles may seem closer etc" but not so on my last 2 cars! Perhaps our boys in blue members could elaborate on this?
If the cost seems too high, you may consider the drivers side only? Finally, while it seems minor, its worthwhile checking with your insurance company and notifying them of the change.
I have the damned things on my i30 too. I agree, they could be dangerous. It's okay for me now that I'm used to them, but it's a worry if someone else drives my car and they've not used them before.
When I towed my new/old caravan with the extended mirrors, that made it worse, looking from one to the other.
At this stage, I don't want to spend the money to get them changed.
It'd be interesting to get the view of our fine constabulary.
Thanks ozis 70 -90 $ seems to be about the going rate, which on the scheme of things is not a huge amount of money, for the comfort and trust i would recieve from making a decision on what i can REALLY see, i drive approx 70- 80000 k per year and i can live without my Internal rear veiw mirror but i use and trust my side mirrors, so i want to see that what is out there is real, Thank You for your imput. dazren
Last time I had one down it was $25 (Cash) from local glazier. He removed the old mirror and rpleced it with a new one fixed in place with double sided tape.
Cheers, Ozjohn.

Those convex mirrors distort the view and present the wrong angles and distances. My vehicle mirrors are ok but the extended towing mirrors have a slight fish eye perspective, but I cope. Gee some of these blokes see us nomads coming. It really does pay to shop around. Start with the simple and work up. In Broome there was a little business that could get me anything I needed for Rosy for the least reasonable outlay. Batteries, side steps, mirrors. I needed a tow tongue for my bike rack and he gave me one from one of the scrap bodies out the back. All other parts were new and delivered in a few days. The longest I had to wait was 2 weeks, but he warned me about delivery time. Shop around.

Just posted on another site about exactly this problem with my Colorado. The driver's side wing mirror is really distorted. OK, it seems to eliminate blind spots, but it makes vehicles seem much further away than they really are. Will try it for a couple of weeks, but have yet to use it while towing the van and have a feeling I will be changing it for "normal" mirrors. Why manufacturers do this is like the love of God, it passeth all understanding. Cheers, Tony

I don't think it eliminates the blind spots Tony..well not on my i30 anyway. I often see vehicles when I turn my head, that I haven't seen in the mirrors.
