Scenic Route to Townsville

Hi all,

Currently in Longreach on my way to Townsville.  Took in the Stockman's Hall of Fame of course, it is very well done and interesting.  I came up thru Carnarvon Gorge - Magnificent! - and Sapphire in the gem fields.  My GPS took me on the backroads - again - up from Carnarvon Gorge, then got lost itself!  An uncomfortable hour finding my way out as darkness was falling, cows & roo were claiming thier share of the road and the petrol gauge was dropping rapidly!  But it ended well, just an hour late.

I'll travel west to Winton, then up to Hughendon and Townsville.  But first another trip to the Stockman's Hall of Fame & the Qantas museum.

I'm trying out a portable 100W solar panel which seems to work well.  My house battery is a normal car battery and pretty old - I have that uncomfortable niggle it is about ready to cark it, so will start sussing out a 105AH deep cycle battery to match the one I recently purchased but currently is being used as a stand alone.  I'll then connect the deep cycle batteries in parallel and deep six the old battery.

I also purchased some Anderson plugs so have been connecting them up, which makes life much easier as I no longer have to lift my bench seat to connect up the solar panel/battery charger.

So it's an interesting learning curve, this fitting out the campervan to suit my needs, which I'm learning as I go along!

Happy travels to all of you on the 'track'!

You're in some beautiful country, with so many interesting places.
I was disappointed with the Hall Of Fame for a few things. One of them was the lack of mention of Len Bedell, who surveyed some of the most outback roads we now traverse. Other than that, it's a great tribute to the people of the bush.
I haven't seen the Qantas museum yet. It's bigger now than it was in 06 when I went through there last.
Enjoy.

try the air boat in longreach as well, also the stage coach ride, and if you think that certain passes are to dear at the qantas museum, just do it. all well worth the money.
cheers.
