Hi Peoples! We are in Childers at the moment helping a couple look after 3 very lively pre-teen kids while there dads away working for a week at a time. The mom works full time & is also on call at any time so is rather stressed & often not home, sometimes the job can be full on. We're finally on our way home to Grafton after 2 years on the road but it would be nice to relax for a few days & de-stress ourselves before we get there, so we're after a very quiet, cheap spot, more or less on a river bank, lake or the ocean frontage to park our van We were thinking about Wongi campground in Wongi State Forest on the Hervey Bay coast & had a look at it, what a beautiful spot & on a lovely river too but, the 40km of dirt road makes it out of the question. If anyone has any hidden spot they know of not too far from the coast which is caravan accessable & on a river or beach then please feel free to share the secret...I won't tell anyone else about it I promise Cheers Jon

I would be going to Dougies too, can't get much more peaceful than that. Ma said they will give you a map for directions at the Chinchilla info centre.
That sounds more stressful than a full-time job Jon and Hylda!
Have you tried to contact Ma, shes at Dougies near Chinchilla and says its wonderfully quiet and peaceful.
Thanks for the suggestion but Chinchilla is a bit further west than we want to travel this time. It's straight down for the coast for us till we hit home, with maybe a slight detour if we find a suitable place, then home & have some fun unpacking the garage full of furniture &stuff & refurnishing the house. With luck the last tennants left our house still habitable.
Cheers
Jon

Was going to suggest Baffle Creek C-park, but you won't want to backtrack that far.
Can't think of anywhere that won't be pretty busy on the coast anyway. My sister ended up staying a couple of weeks, instead of overnight at the Mt. Perry C-park. She said it was very friendly, and peaceful. They have en-suite sites as well.
That's still back North-west of where you are now though.
So John are you looking forward to getting home after 2 years on the road or do you think after a couple of months you both will start to get restless and long for the open wide spaces again. Having lived in Grafton for 12 years in another life I don't think I could settle there ever again, but that is just me, was just wondering. Pauline
These are not free areas but the caravan park at burrum heads is on a river water front with the bay only a couple of hundred mtrs away, there are two parks there but only one on the water.
2nd, there is a basic little park at Glass house mountains, bushland backing, it is the site of the old Cobb & Co on the old Gympie rd. Its reasonably central to the sunshine hinter land & the coast.
Maybe worth checking out.

As you can imagine, we have mixed feelings about going back home. We absolutely loved every minute of our travels but we're looking forward to seeing all our friends & family again & moving back into the house with all its space instead of living out of a shoe box. It will be nice to have a big private bathroom & loo again. The well equipped kitchen with lots of benchspace & cupboards plus a big fridge & separate freezer will be pure bliss for me since I love to cook.
When we look back on the photos on our website we already get nostalgic for the places we have seen & want to see them again or a whole stack of new places. Grafton just doesn't seem to cut it as a scenic wonder. We will be back living in suburbia & the worst part is it's at least 40min from the beach. I guess all this just makes us more determined to get more money together, do some work on the caravan or get another rig & hit the road again in the future
Cheers

Hi Sheba!
Thanks for the link, it certainly in a beautiful area though we did tour the Glasshouse Mountains area fairly thoroughly near the start of our travels. The place is still a possibility but though it's not on a river or any water & we wanted to relax at our campsite more than tour around. Also in the pics it seemed quite crowded though, this may have been taken on a weekend or school holidays.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

We walked through Burrum Heads C/P last time we were in the area - Dec 2009 & although it is in a very nice spot we both thought it was a claustrophobic crowded park with skinny, potholed dirt roads throughout. All in all the place looked far from inviting.
I commented on what I believe to be the Glasshoust Mtns camp in Sheba's post.
Thanks for the suggestions, there much appreciated.
Cheers

You have the best de stessing spots in the world right on your doorstep, MINNIE WATERS national park. How much quieter than ths could you get OR , BROOMS HEAD OR SANDON BEACH. Take your pick.
I have started reading Jon and Hylda's blog and am keeping myself right out of trouble entering into their terrific travel experiences. Good writing and great pics you two! Its a gift, transferring imagination and stimulus in an interesting way, and I hope you continue to enjoy observing and writing despite the deprivations of suburbia:)
There's a couple of CP's close to the water between Maryborough and Tin Can Bay. Poona Point is one, can't remember the other. Sandys or Midges might be a problem there though. I haven't stayed there, but I've been through the area.
There's a couple of CP's in Tin Can Bay, which would be my pick. It's a lovely quiet place. Or if you want to be very close to the beach, there's Inskip Point. Pete recommended it some time ago.

Thanks Beth we we decided to go for Poona Beach Caravan Park as it seems a nice quiet out of the way park & I believe there are a few walks there to enjoy. It also has internet reception so I won't miss the verbal toing & throwing of Wombat, Gubby & co plus we may even drop up to Thursday's Maryborough markets for something extra to do.
I just hope it isn't midge time there yet.
Thanks for everyone's advise
Cheers
Jon
