Travelling north

smile..enjoying a fabulous day in Onslow. Nicely warm, and not humid. The midgies are a minor pest, but the old aerogard keeps them at bay for a whileC/Park 50 meteres from the waters edge, with views out to Thevenard and the gas/oil rigs. Impressive flares at night.. Have spent most of the time free camping along the way and keeping expenses down in the process.Rigg is travelling well. Fuel is horrendous ,unleaded here is $1.78 and the last refill of lpg( Carnarvon) was $1.23. Keeping speed to 80kmph and coupled with a low tow wieght, am getting reasonable km'/litre.Should get to Dampier over the weekend. Hopefully in Broome by the 21st for a couple of weeks

I loved Onslow. I visited the museum to find out all I could on the sinking of prawn trawlers in a tropical cyclone in the 90's I think it was. The son of a boat my ex worked on was killed in one of the boats. Interesting story.
A friend of mine is based there off-shore as the OH&S officer of the gas pipeline project.

Hi Bob,

Good to hear you are travelling well, a long time since we were in Onslow. Spent a week out on direction Island then.

We have had a couple of couples here from Queensland since you left. Spread the word to anyone you meet, that they are welcome here if they are fully self contained.

JC

Thanks JC. Will do that, have mentioned it to a couple of people without being to definitive, just told them to check out the GN site. CG, they have now erected a memorial for those seven people from the two boats. Quite nice without being over the top, lists those that were lost. Am off to the museum today before I hit the road.

Wind died about 5.00pm. AND then started at 2.00am. Oh boy! An Absolute dust storm!Left there and headed for Karratha, much the same, Easterlies gusting to 75kmph, apparently..mmmmmmmmmm! Cloudless skies, forecast is for more of the same for 4 days.

The build up cometh. That's the prevailing winds for this time of the year before the wet season build up begins next month.
The memorial was in place on the headland over the beach when I was there in 07.
It's an interesting story as far as mariners' laws go. It's all in the museum.
Safe travels.
