Check ahead.

Caravan parks here in Kalgoorlie have been very busy and quite often full. to avoid disapoitment why not ring ahead and get a feel of the situation. We hate turning away, especially the elderly, there is a limit. This suggestion can apply anywhere on the circuit but moreso in the regional areas. Enjoy, but enquire ahead. Please keep your anti park comments aside, this is a friendly comment to those who do choose to stay in parks.

Enjoy your travels.

Be safe.

Graham & Pat,  that is very good advice for any area during the peak periods, and there are a lot of GN's that only stay in caravan parks.

Just to add to that, the CMCA are having a major National rally there in October (google CMCA or Kalgoorlie Tourism for info) and at least one caravan park and probably more are booked out already for that.

I mainly stay in caravan parks (other than the odd bush camp) and have found it advisable to check ahead. I would have been caught out several times had I not done this. On one occasion I planned overnighting in park in a small country town outside of peak times. I phoned ahead to check and found out there was bush poetry weekend in the town and the park was completely booked out. If planning an extended stay in a popular area I make my bookings well ahead of time.

Even the council here at our request opened an overflow area, so to help the temporary problem of unavailability, but you can't blame them for closing them down asap as some don't do the right thing. CMCA have been given a camp area so the parks may not be overloaded. There are still a lot of travellers to come down yet. Many have turned up here earlier, but some have not realised the distances between places and have ended up ahead of schedual.

There are always a few that spoil it for the rest, by opening the overflow it create's more money for the town, as most GN's have to buy food etc in town

We are currently in Kalgoorlie and booked ahead, as we have done for almost every park in WA. It really is very busy! The free-camps seem to be just as busy!

We have seen people turned away in Geraldton as early as 11am. When you have a booking you dont have to hurry to make sure you get a site, you can wander in as late as 4pm, having enjoyed a few side-trips along the way.
