I'm a bit the same Marj. I'm still waiting to get heavier springs fitted to Lucy, and new tyres for Lucy and Lulu! And my rego is due too! disbelief

I know just how you feel Marj. In the last 6 weeks or so, I've put 4 new Small Truck tyres on [ $95 ea.], had a new Windscreen fitted, Rego., and this week my renewal came for the RACQ Membership.

On top of that, I have to get a new Pressure Pump.

Just when I think I'm getting on top of everything, something else happens. Starting to pre-pay Rego. next pension day . [I hope.]

There must be something going around.
My split system aircon on the caravan has just given up the ghost. It's 5 years old and done a lot of kms on the back bumper of the van.
The aircon man said it's leaking on the inside unit, and it would cost $1200 to fix.
He quoted $1200 to supply and install a new one with inverter, and at least a 3 year warranty. Guess which way I went?
I too seem to be forever handing out money, but it doesn't come back the other way. I have to fight to get paid for the work I've done.
Seems a bit uneven somehow.

There's always something Beth and Sheba. You just reminded me my RACV will be due Nov I think, so that will come straight after the tyres. Yes mine are small truck tyres too. he said between 85.00 and 120.00 on average.
Thankfully I only have to get 2 Beth. The fronts are ok. They will rotate putting them to the back and the new ones on the front.

Your not alone Marg, $500 yesterday to get a dent taken out of my drivers door (I let my door swing open on a slope and it hit a brick pier, didn't catch it in time and dented the door), and $324 today for a new centre high stop light supplied and fitted (broken by repairer).

Hmmmm......is this vehicle trying to tell me something ?????

Off to get a new decal put on tomorrow, the one on the door had to be removed for painting......

Thankfully I don't have a a/con like yours CG so no big costs there.
Vic I have a dent in the side just behind the sliding door. Was there when I got Myrtle. Think I will leave it there, maybe disguise it with some decoration later.

can I join this? 4 new van tyres in Alice Springs @ 140 each. 2 new tyres for tug in Darwin, Van rego and today a new battery @ $205........... all this and not to mention deisel from $1.50 to $2.00 a litre. All this in the last month.

My Rosy has a few dings. They were there when I bought her, and they didn't even charge me any extra. I wasn't worried about the body. It was about the motor and all things mechanical for reliability. (Sounds like me)
She's been bounced off rocks, and of course there are stone chips and random chips etc. (sounds like me)
I'm seriously thinking about giving her a face lift when I start earning some money. De-dent and repaint. There's not much paint left when I polish her. (Not like me)

My rego on new wagon is due right on xmas - 19th. If I didn't have to stay here until march, it would have cost me nothing in NSW except for green slip. ahhh the joys of living in qld - cant complain really. It's what I like up here.
hows this?? took it back to pickerings in Mt Isa 3 weeks ago and they said I needed a new alternator and the drivers internal door handle had to be replaced. These "little" things were covered under the extended warranty I took out on it for the next 50000k's. Cost me nothing. Otherwise the cost of a new alternator was going to be $2,500.!!!

There is nothing worse than the money put out to replace tires. But safety is priceless - nobody wants to think of the alternative.

Marj (and everyone else), I would MUCH rather see you off the road for a couple of weeks getting money together, than the alternative that worn tyres can cause.

I know that everyone else knows this already - I just like to consider the added safety of new tires to be the "silver lining" in all that money leaving our hands :)

That's why I'm in the van full time. I'd hate to be managing a house or unit as well as my vehicle and van, with maintenance, rates, taxes, insurance and on-going running costs of utilities.
At least I know my vehicles are mechanically sound.

Geez Marj! Cant think of anything helpful to say... maybe this photo will cheer you up.

Its a plant called Purple Myrtle with many flowers for many journeys in Myrtle.

I'm not going to stress about it. Now I've gone this far with motor etc I will just keep on keeping on so by the time I head north next winter everything will be in Myrtle that I need for the whole time I'm up there.
Can still get in my little trips around Vic over the summer and work out what else I might need.
So right CG, very hard running a roof over your head and a campervan as well. About half my pension goes on each every payday and no way to reduce any of the costs.
Wouldn't feel comfortable giving up this little unit as know I will need it in later life, Too hard to find another one like this. Myrtle is not big enough to live in permanently son a matter of budgetting for both.
Luckily I don't have any maintenance costs in the unit. Myrtle gives me plenty of those.

My runabout vehicle is a 1986 Barina that I inherited 15 years ago. It has only done 67,000km, partly because we have been away travelling so much. Anyway, the tyres on it were 10 years old and although they still had plenty of tread, thought it wise to replace them. Cost me $480 for 4 little tyres! The common manufacturers no longer make that "old" size, so I had to get Hankook ones. Cost nearly as much as new tyres for the Landrover - unbelievable.

A friend told me, recently, that this is a super moon year, and that there are always catastrophies and disasters every time one of these comes round, once every 17 or 18 years. Given the year that so many of us seem to be having, there could be something to this??

Sounds like a good idea Marj, just about all of my accidents have been parking/backing etc not paying enough attention to what I am doing furious

My manual says 45 Loaded/ 38-40 unloaded, so I'm going with what my Tyre guy says from now on.

I just had to buy 2 new tyres - $250 each including tubes. I'm sure they should not be so expensive. Wonder if it is possible to go tubeless. Always so much to consider.

Didn't think about tyre pressure and wear so will have to check that out.
