Gavin Murray from Hobohome ,http://www.hobohome.com/ is running a 'Use the Shovel" campaign to educate travellers, motorhomers and caravaners about keeping rest areas and Freecamps clean. Feel free to download and print the flyer and distribute when next on the road.
I'll be printing that out to take when I finally do get going again.
On a personal note, there is no excuse for this type of behaviour. I have a Campervan, and no Porta-potti.
My first really long trip, I only ever used Public Toilets, either at rest areas or Servo's, and at night used a night bucket for fluids, which I emptied in the next Public Toilet I came to, in the morning.
I went from near Yeppoon, Qld, to Mildura, Vic. via the newell Highway, stayed two nights, then came back.
I haven't driven the Nullabor yet, but from what I've read on a few Forums, there seem to be Servo's within easy driving distance all the way across these days.
gees i hate seeing people throw rubbish around, ive been in cars with people chucking mcdonals paper bags with the works in it lookin like its a bag with all there empty cup and burger wrappers and stuff.
i cant believe that some one can just wind down there window and throw something like that out.
disgrace and yep its what you teach your children i say and if you do teach them right and they do wrong they would never want to do it in front of me thats for sure.
ide clip them up the ear (even though mine are grown up lol)
I hope these lazy, disrespectful travellers are a minority. No wonder some councils want to eliminate their free camps if they have to clean up after these people. As kids we were taught to clean up after ourselves and others. We had yard duty at school. These days they have cleaners etc and the kids don't do it. Just follow a child when they have an iceblock or wrapped sweet. No need for a bin there. The ground is ok. Mum just keeps walking and not a word is said. When is it right to speak up, because I'm a bucket mouth when it comes to this sort of stuff? If a bloke doesn't realise the error of his ways dumping the pee bucket in front of a fellow camper, what hope do we have. It's the young and the old in some cases. Not ALL young and not ALL old. Just some. I've camped by backpackers, young and old from all over the world. Some are wonderful and some should have stayed home in their own country. That's life. Let's look after our own patches, and try to prick the conscience of the next person to be pricked to do the same.
