I saw it too, and immediately thought of the fellow travellers who had to evacuate very quickly. What would you do? Is your camp compact enough to gather together quickly to run? Or would you have to leave your van and gear behind to run?

Hey i lived in Canberra for 5 years (hate to admit I was a public servant) and never once wore shorts and t shirt except under my long johns - Gerty are your ancestors from Iceland or Tassie or even Scotland?
Scotland actually. But the reason we are out here in the nice warm parts of Australia is that we dont enjoy Canberra winters either!!!
In Summer-time, it can get hot for a week or so... shorts and t-shirts come out, and we're so white from being in long sleeves/trousers that we get sunburnt! There are a few hardy souls at any time though... goodonya agro!
Actually its a lovely city, I've had moments of home-sickness lately. (only moments)
Just had a thought about this... evacuating when in a van park... what is the procedure??? Do the van parks have a evacuation process set up.... OMG see I need to retire I am too hung up on Work Place Health and Safety hehe
Yep I was exagerating which is very unusual for me :) People don't realise Canberra can get very hot in summer. I loved living there and being able to see the Brindabellas from all parts. It was also a great base to go off exploring the Snowies and the south coast.
