Make sure you spend some time at Streaky Bay, we just loved it and you must do the trip to Cape Labott and see the sea lions though you can't get very close need binoculars.
So much to do. So little time! Great to see pictures of "home" for me. Although I was born and raised in other areas of SA, I call Pt. Lincoln "home". Must nearly be time for the long drive to catch up with may family still there.

Oh you are naughty Chris.Lol.A little hint with pop rivets that is used in the Aircraft industry is to dip the head of the rivet in Araldite. This method has been used on the rivets in the leading edge and some stress areas on Navy planes. The rivets will not work loose.Always make sure that you use the correct size drill for the rivet you are using..
hmmm no update tonight internet connections are harder to come by now the further west you go
How true, had no connection even though Camps6 indicated a phone at Dry Stone Walling area
What a magic day, came upon a sign that said lookout 500mtrs so went to investigate and found the most wonderful views since the Great Ocean Road. The lookout is opposite the Lake Hamilton and the lake provides beautiful scenery as you drive towards Elliston it is called Cummins lookout. Eventually stopped at Dry Wall Stoning area.
Set off this morning and followed another sign post Lock's Well with more magical ocean views. Moved on to Elliston and again found views rivalling The Great Ocean Road. Went on to Talia Caves and even though it was blowing a gale we still went down and investigated The Woolshed Cave.
Moved on from there to Murphy's Haystacks took even more photos and now here we are 5kms off Streaky Bay at Eyers Waterhole with internet connection this time.
Will edit this post later when I can add some photos.

I call it "glue and screw" (don't touch that either), and I use All Clear. It holds but doesn't cement it so you can never undo the screw again. It works to seal if there's a doubt. It's been very successful so far. I wouldn't be without my "All Clear".

Hang in there Yeoeleven. There are storms in the air across the state and it can get fairly boisterous between Streaky and Ceduna and further west. Take it easy or park up until the weather settles down a bit. I'm getting shaken around a bit here in Adelaide even though the van is on stands. My poor rotten awning is flapping away and hopefully I can get a new one soon. This squall came in fairly quickly and I could hear it before it hit. She'll be right!

you are so right Chris, they hit between Elliston & Streaky Bay. Very hard driving the Hi Ace and Billeee found it harder with his bigger vehicle.
Can not afford to put up the pop up, had enough of that previously st Bonython so we may hang around for a few days.
Hey - John is Billeee still travelling with you? He is very quiet on here at the moment.
Yes Jules,
Billeee and I are still travelling in tandem but decision time is almost upon him. Because there were few campsites nominated up the middle of the Peninsula he decided to come with me around and up the west side.
Hey John some wonderful photo's and you look like you are having a great time. I am very envious. I had a cousin rock up today in a custom built offroad van and they are on the road full time. They have just been all over WA in really remote parts. Sorry am going off topic but geez I can't wait to get on the road. Look out for all those rivets and screws and Cruzin Granny brandishing her tube of glue and screw.
Murphy's Haystacks are so significant because the entire region is limestone country. The Haystacks are granite cores exposed by the elements over many thousands of years. Up at Wudinna there's a granite monolith which is the second largest to Ayres Rock. Every place has it's features, and it's not always just the face value that is significant.

It's like that with any sightseeing in every region in this country. There are so many features in that part of the state. Pt. Labatt and the seal colony are not far. That's the only mainland seal colony. It's a bit out of the way, off the beaten track, but so are the best features in this country. Most travellers cut across the top from Pt. Augusta to Ceduna, missing all the peninsula and the coast to the south. It's a pity. As you may gather I have a close affiliation with this region. The farm country would be looking its absolute best right now with the crops tall and green and the canola golden by the mile.

I can see you really know the area CG, we also did Point Labott and saw all the seals, we were staying at Streaky Bay at the time, lovely little place.
Still here at the Eyre's Waterhole, spent some time in Streaky Bay stocking up on grocerys & petrol etc. returning here later. We are planning to be in Ceduna on Sunday staying in a caravan park so that Billeeee can see the NRL Grand Final.
You Billy and John would have driven past a sign to "No Where Else" along the road to Elliston. This is not a town, but it is a farming district they are about to make a movie about, on the site. So you could have checked out the scene of a movie while you were out that way. Pity you've passed it.

Louth bay is a photographers paradise if you walk around the point. The side where the park is is vey flat and featureless but walk across the village(about 10 minutes) there is a large area of rocks and cliffs with waves breaking and many different colours and types of rocks etc. When there I think I found an old volcanic lava flow (or that's what it looked like) in the rocks. I spent many hours walking the shore there but then I spent days at Pt Gibbon and walked as far as I could both ways. Wait till the tide goes out and you can walk around the southern point and walk for miles. Just be back before the tide comes back in.
There is a good site on the other side of Coffin Bay. head towards the airport and then head towards the water and you will find a road alongside the water that runs along side a service road used by the local fishermen. Locals are friendly and you might get a visit from the local farmer for a chat as well you might be able to get some fresh oysters as well, just don't swim out for them or they might get angry
There are many sites further around as you head west.
Regards Brian

Another day in Streaky Bay, we decided to take the Westall Way Loop. We had planned to look at staying overnight at Tractor Beach but missed it didn't see a sign so we came back to Eyres Well again. We also missed out on seeing Smooth Bay no sign there either. This is the link to the Westall Way Loop http://www.streakybay.sa.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=296 you would think that the council would sign their attractions if they put them on their web site.
The bush camping site is opposite the High Cliffs and The Granites but hardly worth paying for.
You make a valid point about sign posting, so I've forwarded your concerns and a link to this forum to the Streaky Bay Council for their future attention. They depend fairly heavily on tourist traffic, and if it helps you've done a good thing.

john' I am impresed with your set up and am champing at the bit to be out there in the play ground doing what your doing...Im just about to set off for a 4-5 week trip up the East coast and ACT ...im hoping to meet up with others at Gunbower/Greens Lake in november and then over the West ...please keep the postings... great.
No internet at Smokey Bay with Optus but Billeee had access with Telstra.
Spent the morning at the Mitre10 carpark fixing my solar panels to the roof of the Hi Ace
Set off for Haslem around 1pm and after arriving there found no internet connection so we took off to Smokey Bay and are parked just outside the town limits on an area that had been cleared. A camper who we were talking to last night said he had camped there on his way the previous night.
Today we drove to Ceduna and booked into a caravan park next to the airport. A humourless individual, totally unhelpful took our money and told us to find any space I asked where the amenities block was and he said in the middle. We had a drove round and went into Ceduna to have a look around, there was an Oyster Festival on and it was a long weekend so we took the first offer of accomodation in case the town was fully booked.
So the reason I wanted to stay over in Ceduna was to look at buying a smart charger recommended on the thread on the techies forum "Deep Cycling. Might have to buy it before leaving on Tuesday morning.
Billeee has decided not to go on to Perth and will be returning to Victoria so we will go our seperate ways for a few months until I get round to Queensland when we intend to meet up again. We have travelled over 2000kms in the 21 days we have been travelling together. It will be strange not seeing his headlights in the rear vision mirror.
