Nearly a Solo......

I have been told I am not allowed to put this on the forum, so you haven't seen it, right !

Someone who I'm not allowed to name (not me) had their heart rate way out of wack, sometimes way up high, sometimes way down low and missing beats as well.  Also crushing pains in the chest.  At times I couldn't feel their pulse at all.

Anyway, rang the Ambo's and they came and did a few tests and whizzed them away to hospital (1AM in the morning).  Into emergency and they tried to stabilize the heart rate using different methods and drugs to no avail, so after a few hours we were given the option of electric shock treatment as a last resort, has a few risks but better than the alternative (stroke etc caused by clots being kicked up by the erratic and high pulse rate etc).  Condition was called Atrial Fibrillation.

Well, opted to have this done and after two attempts it did the job, pulse back to normal, allowed to leave the hospital an hour later.  (now 9AM).   So a very long night for the "patient" and myself.

I had taken a car into the hospital after the ambulance had left and had a parking fee of nearly $14, they don't give any concession for parking overnight but that was the least of my concerns, just happy that all turned out well.

A big scare for both of us.  Hospital staff were great, I was due for my own heart medication but didn't have it with me, so they arranged for me to have a dose while in there, besides taking my pulse and blood pressure, I think they thought they might end up with two patients instead of one.

Now I didn't tell you any of this, right !!  Thank goodness "someone" doesn't read the forum.....hmm

Oh, mate - so glad it is all ok now - you take care of "someone", and yourself. Thinking of you - know exactly what you went through - went through it with my "someone" twice, got him home both times, but third time was not so lucky - so take care.

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone, "someone" must be feeling better, she's been out shopping already (retail therapy).

My instructions were DON'T TELL ANYONE ! (Doesn't want anyone to worry etc, also keep asking if she is ok). But I had to share it with someone, so thanks for reading the post. Just don't dob me in if you get to meet her at anytime, ha ha, or I will be in the dog house for sure.

Know how you feel Vic. Sometimes there is just no one around to tell something important to and you just have to get it out there. Thats what we are here for.
Thats why I have notched up so many posts on this site.

Very pleased 'someone' is okay now Vic. I know it can be very frightening for the 'someone' and the partner to go through.

But, in case I ever meet 'someone', I know nutting,,in Sgt Shultz voice!

Hi Vic,
great to hear that someone is o.k. Must have been pretty stressful for you as well.
Your comment about not delaying the lifestyle we want is spot on.

Thanks Firefly and John,

We may have to restrict our travels a bit now (within WA), don't want to be miles from anywhere and have a major problem......

Just got to this thread, so glad they were able to fix "someone", what a scary experience. As the weather is lovely in WA from the looks of it and it's such a lovely state shouldn't be too hard doing the travelling there!

Hey if you are going to be restricted to any state, I think W A is the best one, just remember someone is probably putting on a brave face for her someone special.

Thanks to you all for your well wishes, we had a good night out at wedding tonight and everything was fine.

We had a trip booked to Kalgoorlie on the Prospector for next Tuesday before our little drama, and she still wants to go, so off the Kalgoorlie for a few days on Tuesday.

Thanks for sharing your concerns with us Vic. I can't speak for anyone else, but you made me feel special by confiding, when "someone" told you not to tell anyone.
We aren't just anyone. We are fellow nomads and friends.
You were obviously very worried about "someone", and that makes both of you very special to each other and to us.
I'm glad the problem was resolved, and you know what needs to be done if it happens again. I hope it doesn't, but it always pays to be prepared. The wisdom of 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Don't even feel a tiny pang of guilt for confiding. Feel proud that you care enough to share your concerns. You are a very special bloke.
"Someone" is obiously getting her exercise with a brisk walk around the shopping centre. You know how hard it is to control those wayward shopping trolleys. She deserves a small reward for her tenacity.
Keep up the good work!

Hi Vic - I hope that your special someone is OK.  I have AF and have had my heart restarted once and may have to do so again.  Get her a good cardiologist - there is a place in Perth called CVS (they have an office over here in Melbourne) and they should be able to help you - your GP should know.  When I was first diagnosed the medication was a bit of a pain 'cos with the Warfarin I had to have blood tests sometimes three times a week to check the dosage was correct - and the other medication made me tired all the time (I think you know that Warfarin was to stop the chance of clots), and I had to work at the same time.  But now all is well - new medication, no blood tests and heart beat is slower - still uneven and a bit jumpy at times - but that's life.

As long as "someone" keeps up her medication and takes it easy occasionally I can't see any reason why you can't take her away.  If you are worried stay away from way outback areas for a while, but talk to the doctor.  My doctor has no problems with me travelling as long as I keep up the medication.  Didn't turn a hair when I told him last week that I had just returned from 4 weeks away driving to Charleville and back via a visit to Jules47 in SE Queensland.

I used to suffer from Tachycardia. That's when the heart suddenly starts to beat really fast..galloping I used to say, as that's what it felt like. There were techniques to try to set it right again, but usually I'd have to call an ambulance and they'd take me to Emergency. They'd have to jab me with a drug that actually stops the heart for a split second and 'resets' it. Horrible feeling. I was on medication to control it, but sometimes my heart would just skip a beat and off she'd go. A couple of years ago I had a procedure to right the problem. It worked a treat. I've been off that particular medication ever since! It's amazing what they can do for heart problems now.

Thank God I'm not restricted on where I can go anymore!

I agree entirely, Milo. A hospital I attend regularly in Perth charges for parking in advance. How the hell am I supposed to know whether I will be 10 minutes or an hour and a half? As you can imagine, a lot of ticket swapping goes on between arrivals and departures.
Fair dinkum, I would not be surprised to see parking meters at the local cemetery soon!
Cheers, Tony

I used to visit a Brisbane hospital regularly, not so regular now, and I'd be there a good part of the day. I couldn't catch a bus, I had to drive, so always ended up with a big payment at the end of the day. The clinic that I was going to said there was a discount for such a thing, but when I asked at the gate, they knew nothing about it.
