Asthma

Not feeling too good at the moment. Actually, truth be told, I haven't been good for several weeks. I've just been doing the ostrich thing. I had such a bad night coughing, I've upped my meds this morning and rung the doctor to see if she can fit me in sometime today. Waiting for a return call.

I think it was all the bushfire smoke that started me off...remember Toowoomba, those who were there? It was really thick.

Prednisone has it pros and cons...on one hand it makes me a bit hyperactive...which I could often do with...but on the other hand, I feel jittery all over.  But, of course, it works very well for the Inflamation in my lungs.

And my friend from the Tablelands arrives tomorrow for a visit.

Hope you are feeling better soon Beth. Fire smoke can be a problem. Get into that doctor and get it sorted as soon as possible. All the best.

Thanks all. Managed to see my doctor this arvo. She's upped my preventer, Ventolin, and she was happy that I'd started the Prednisone myself, and just for good measure, I also have antibiotics. hmm

I know it's all for the best, but lousy timing.

Father Ted, I know that medicine. Another doctor suggested it years ago when the kids were little. Tastes like c*#p but works really well and it's cheap to boot..well it used to be.

Pauline, my family is full of Asthmatics unfortuately. I was only diagnosed 6 or 7 years ago. I ended up with Pnuemonia that time. My 5 year old great nephew is a very bad Asthmatic, poor little fella. In and out of hospital since he was a tiny baby. Thankfully I've never had to go to hospital.

Gubby, she's an energiser bunny, so when I take her to the shops, I'll just sit on a couch somewhere like an old Granny and let 'er rip! biggrin wink

It's already started! Just been talking to her on the phone arranging pickup from the airport tomorrow. Had me laughing and coughing all at the same time! disbelief wink

Hope you are feeling much better Beth - and enjoying your friends visit.

Friend is waiting to find out when she is to go in to hospital to have partial lung removal - the top third is like rock they say, and the bottom third is well on the way, which leaves little room for the rest of her lungs to expand to get enough air in. Pretty horrible outlook for her, actually. Only problem is, she is a smoker, and the doc has said she needs to be four months smoke free before the op - she doesn't even realise how much she smokes, don't know how she will be able to stop, but sure hope she can.

That's very sad Jules. My cousin was a chain smoker and her doctor put her on some tablets to stop. She's been 3 years + now and hasn't regretted it at all.

I'm feeling a little better, but I'll still be on the Prednisone for another couple of weeks...having a chest Xray next week too. Of course, I'm supposed to be 'resting' but that's just impossible atm.

Nevertheless, I'm having a good time with Lesley, although I've had to 'share' wink her with her son who moved down here a few months ago.

Hate to have to tell you Jules, but if she doesn't stop smoking, they will never operate.

I found this out before I discovered I had to have heart surgery.  My next door neighbour went to Vets hospital for operation on legs, and they sent him home without doing it, as he wouldn't stop smoking.

That was about 1999/2000.  Still hospital policy I believe.

Hope you're feeling better Beth.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Sheba that is my belief as well - but not my place to tell her that - she is an adult - and very strong minded in most ways - except about smoking - I don't even think it is the tobacco, she smokes a pretty mild one, but the habit of having one in her hand and lighting it up - unfortunately - she knows the risks, but reckons she has tried everything - except not buying another packet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is how I stopped, had a packet with only one out of it, decided to stop - carried packet around, never had another smoke for about 6 years - am now a bit of a social smoker - had one the other day, may not for months - just sometimes have a craving for it.
