Travelling the Oodnadatta Track a few weeks ago we got a puncture. Nothing unusual in that you might say. Fair enough, but, I had the devil of a time jacking the car at the recommended jacking point. It has been suggested to me that I might get an exhaust jack. Does anyone have any experience with one of these items? Thanks.

Had one for a few years, used it once at home just to test it out, and it did the job, but never used it again, sold it about two months ago, you must make sure you have a couple of small carpets to put on the ground and on top of the bag to stop any sharp parts of the car coming in contact with the bag.
Same here, bought one second hand in perfect condition from a bloke who also only tried it at home too, for $60.00, too good to refuse. But have only used it once at home. like Wombat said you need some old carpet pieces to put between the bag and the chassis, and the bag and the ground to prevent it getting a puncture. They are pretty tough, but they are carrying a lot of weight. A Jacking plate might be a better bet. Just a piece of 25MM ply about 400mm across would probably do it, or some heavy Aluminium checkerplate maybe?

Can someone explain what is an exhaust jack and how does it work. Have tried to work it out from the last 3 posts to no avail. All I have so far is there is a bag and you need some carpet.
It is just a heavy duty vinyl bag that has a hose which attaches to the exhaust, you just rev the engine and the bag inflates and jacks the vehicle up, it is just great on sandy or rough roads, we used them all the time when I was 4wheel driving.
