When I heard that milk came from cows I thought that all the dairy farms must be located at Philip Island (Vic), or maybe the Isle of Wight in England.
Hey all I am fascinated about food history - for instance acorns were a staple diet across the UK and parts of europe - they were the equivalent of flour essential with just as many uses - cakes, bread, travelling rations but no one eats them today.
The Chinese invented pasta and tomatoes and potatoes and chocolate (cocoa) and coffee were only discovered and imported from South America in the 1500's. Imagine Italy with out spagetti and Ireland with out spuds and France without coffee and chocolate.
About 2 years ago agricultural archeologists found a date seed from a few centuries BC. It was a particular type of date that was very valuable and served as currencyand which has been extinct for a couple of thousand years. They have reconsituted the seed and are now growing it and are hoping it will be a female because if it is they will be able to resestablish the species. Amazing stuff.
Just about any animal can be miked ... I wonder what human cheese would taste like - sheep cheese is yummy.
Goat cheese is pretty good too. I think food has evolved with man. Now we have science interferring and genetically modifying natural produce. Grain is now grown with shorter stalks and bigger heads. (A bit like a professional sportsman). Think of all the different varieties of wheat, spuds, mangoes, bananas, peaches, tomatoes, grapes, cucumbers, mushrooms, etc etc. As a kid a primary school I remember eating acorns from the big oak tree at Lobethal. It's part of the Christmas light display. Even different cows give different qualities of milk. It's all drinkable, but the richness, or butter fat varies. And life is good.

Are you saying you have expert knowledge on the length of Pro Sportsmen's stalks and, indeed their heads?
It's the image portrayed by professional sportsmen, and they seem to live according to the delusion. I actually went out with a professional AFL player in the 60's, and it wasn't true then, but who knows what all this training and these energy drinks do to bits of the anatomy?
