Anywhere past Grafton on east coast NSW - inland you will have average days ,

but cooler nights , don't know about west coast .

Which side of the country are you travelling from, Cannylass?
Dont think there are any warm beaches on the WA coast that arent almost always booked out, or at least extremely busy over the winter months.
Our experience of the Queensland Coast is the same, but there may be a spot or two we havent heard about.

We are on the south Coast NSW Illawarra area and it gets very cold in winter so its got to be warm

Darling there are lots of places not difficult to find. Darling you need toss the Hema away and get topographic maps. Darling the topographic maps show you all the detail. Darling Jacko has no trouble finding a good spot for a few weeks where it is warm in Nth NSW or the hinterland of Sth Qld. Darling Jakco likes time off between jobs and keep my winter jobs around Nth NSW or Sth Qld. Darling if Jacko sees a good spot next to a river or lake on a property Jacko goes and knocks on the door and asks them if they would mind if Jacko stayed for however long Jacko wants to at the time. Darling to date never been refused by the lovely landholders. Darling inland is cold at night, and darling Jacko would highly recommend my darling little Webasto heater. Darling I am in LOVE with Mr. Webasto Diesel Heater. Darling the best $900 you can spend on Mr. Webasto.

Darling the Webasto diesel heaters are in fact $700 for the kit, Darling then there is the dreaded $100 freight and you then you need to buy a few extra bits which cost $100. Darling I believe the extra bits come from the man in Turkey. Darling the gorgous guys that constantly help Jacko over at RVtravel http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/rvtravelau/ have all the details. Darling I bought a couple for friends not so fortunate as Jacko for Chrissie presents. Darling one of the lads there managed the process for me with a fixed address and Jacko paid up. Darling one of the gorgeous men brought back my Skimo 12V air con from Europe.

My favourite place to "winter over" in is Mission Beach, North Queensland.

No thanks, David from Albury (if he still resides there), and I have crossed swords many a time over the years on various Groups/Forums when he looses the plot after his ideas/thoughts are challenged.

Sorry Cannylass for taking your topic off track but when something seems too good to be true, one need to follow up in the hope that it is true (particular if it does not cost anything to follow up, LOL).

Mission Beach, North Queensland. is fine i think we have to go that far to aviod the cold as for the cold night we do have a gas heater but it nice not to have to relie on heating only to get there

In 2009, we found a gem of a place - one of those overlooked by many travellers. It was Forrest Beach Caravan Park, on the coast, about 20km east of Ingham. It is part of the Forrest Beach Hotel/Motel complex. We went for a few days. stayed a month, and would have liked longer.
It is only a small park - about 50 sites, I think. It has beach frontage - and the beach there was a lovely, long one. We walked for kms. along it. It was good value - $150 a week, then. The amenities were nothing flash, but adequate and cleaned daily. Our site had a cement annexe slab, backed onto pleasant forest and we had a view straight down the row to the sea.
It was in walking distance of the village (called Allingham, not Forrest Beach) which had a little supermarket, a take away shop, a newsagent. We would go into Ingham once a week for main supplies - a pleasant drive through the canefields and past the interesting Victoria Mill.
There's some interesting National Parks in the area behind Ingham, and a pleasant wetlands walk in the town. The Driver played bowls at Ingham, Lucinda and McKnade Mill - all in reasonable proximity.

Not sure if you want power or not but a great place I like is Palm Cove north of Cairns, but ring now to book. powered is $23 a day or 16 unpowered
you can use a genny on unpowered. Its ruff but right across the road from the beach and just down the road people pay over $1000 a night in some of the motels.

OH NO Bloody Cairns Council hate caravans. I bet it reopens with lots of tourist cabins and the few caravan sites will be to expensive to bother staying

Cairns Regional Council is upgrading the Palm Cove CP over a four year period and is still open for business, I had a look there a few months ago. The Palm Cove CP is very definitely not on the council's "closed list" and in fact the council has allocated over 1.1 million to the upgrade and there is no mention of units in the plan (which can be downloaded from its website).

Palm Cove CP is a budget park in a very up-market area.

If Cairns RC were "caravan unfriendly" I don't think it would be spending this sort of money on an upgrade. A number of private caravan parks in Cairns have closed down in the last 10 years or so but this is because the owners have sold their properties to developers and not because they have been forced or pressured to by the council.

The Gordonvale rest area has always been a day use only rest area and never "open" to overnight camping. Campers who stayed there in the past were flouting this requirement and denying locals and day use visitors space at this area. The council appears to be now enforcing this. It's my understanding that free camping is being extended at Babinda.

I'm no apologist for Cairns Council but I do think there are times we should check our facts.

My favourite park at Mission Beach is the Hideaway CP that's located right in town. They do a good deal on stays of 10 weeks or more. More on this one in the recommendations forum. If your budget does not extend to this park there is a council park across the road. There are now units/cabins on some of the sites but I think these were put in originally to provide temporary accommodation following cyclone Yasi.

The same council (Cassowary Regional) operate other "budget" parks in the area including Kurrimine Beach where there are no units/cabins but both powered and unpowered sites. This one is a Mecca for fishing types as it's located right at the boat ramp and offers some of the best fishing in the area.

Another place worth considering is Seaforth, north of Mackay. There are only unpowered sites there but it is right on the beach with large maintained grassy sites and plenty of extra space. It is well priced at $95 per week.

The site of Stockland Shopping Centre was also a caravan park once upon a time.
Some are upgrading to 4 star expensive parks. For some reason everyone wants to attract the upmarket tourist, rather than we ordinary, humble folk who just want to park in a clean facility with clean amenities.

I am pleased to hear Palm Cove isn't being closed, however, from what I was told up there the land was willed to the council under the proviso it always remains a caravan park. So really it can't be closed all together. At one stage they tried to palm ( no pun intended) it off to Big 4 but Big 4 said it wasn't worth it. Anyway that was just scuttlebutt

Also Gordonvale was subject to rumour, we were told by the locals that camping at Gordonvale was now allowed because the Gordonvale caravan park closed. The free camping was allowed because of lobbieing from local business, mainly the bowling club and the supermarket. Has the caravan park reopened?

As I say all I know is just hearsay.

Balgal Beach just north of Townsville is a free camp site right on the beach it is lovely in Townsville in the winter

Spent three nights at Balgal two years ago and can really recommend it. The little shop/cafe/pub is great too.

There are cold showers on the beach.

It does fill up fairly quickly so get in early.
