Medic alert systems.

Hi everyone, I have been thinking of late about how no one would know of my medical conditions and how to treat them in the advent of accident/stroke etc and so I discussed this today with my GP. Seems one of the better systems is a medicalert bracelet or necklace type of medallion with one's vital medical history recorded.

For the above system it's $55.00 for the medallion/bracelet, free membership year one and $20.00 thereafter.........it all seems exceptionally good value if we should ever need emergency treatment.

It makes sense to me! What do you think?

cheers,

ozi2

Brilliant idea - especially for someone in your situation - or indeed anyone who has an allergy (I am allergic to bees) - the Quota club up here have a small pack, either in a plastic packet or in a film canister, contains a sheet where you can list allergies, emergency contacts etc, and also has a sticker to put on your vehicle to alert someone if you are in accident or the like, and need help - I think it is a great idea.

Do you have a link oxi2?   It would certainly be better than my current alert bracelet.

Is the information on a data base or something?

Hi Ma, yes, it is a data base system that allows you to update any changes each year when your membership falls.

the webpage is www.medicalert.org.au. It ticks all the boxes for me.

cheers to you both,

ozi2

Hi Ma & Blue, I have gone ahead and joined, I believe it will be a very handy "tool"but here's hoping I dont have to use it!biggrin

Just for your information, it takes around 2 weeks for the bracelet/necklet medallion to be processed/delivered ( should you want to have it before your next trip).

Total cost including del $61.00.

cheers,

ozi2

I think there is also an annual fee to remain on the data base  (at least there was a few years ago)

thanks ozi2 - I am also looking into getting our medical records put onto a thumb drive - have seen a system for sale in the local pharmacy - just concerned that GP's probably don't all use the same data programs for records - must check it out

You can also buy medical history bracelets etc from Chemists that do not have a data base but have a space on the rear to inscribe your main hospital and hospital file number which gives your medical history, these can be looked up at most hospitals on their online data base.  Also Drs can ring the hospital to find out your medical history if unconcious etc.

Saves having to pay an annual fee etc and would be up to date.

Thanks ozi2 but the time frame is out for us for this trip we only have 16 days before we head off.   I have a bracelet at the moment so that will have to do till we get back.
