TURBO OVEN


We have a turbo oven (cheapie from KMart) it is great, pies chips paked veges, roast  and cakes etc.

but it only cooks cakes & potato bake etc if you use a metal container.

If we use a pyrex dish, it cooks the top beautifully but the bottom doesn't cook properly.

Doe's anyone else have this problem, or are we doing something wrong confuse

You will find the same problem with a conventional oven I reckon GS.

It's something to do with the amount of heat that is retained in the metal as opposed with the lesser heat in the pyrex.

So, no, you aren't doing anything wrong.

I think you may need to preheat the pyrex dish to cooking temperature before loading the ingredients into the dish..... perhaps???

Don't know about Potato Bake, but apparently cakes cook best in a Ring Tin.

 Yes that's what we are finding, metal cookware works best

Hi Brian.  My meaning was more towards the style, rather than what the tin is made of.   In other words, the Circular Containers which give you a cake with a hole in the middle.

Doreen has tried ring tins and normal round tins and they both work well she has also done a date loaf in a loaf tin 100%

 The date loaf and maderia cake in the date loaf tin come out perfectly every time

 I might be wrong, but that looks more like a jelly mould than a cake tin. I'm not convinced that it would survive cooking.

It's made from aluminium with a non-stick coating, the same as any cake tin and that is its intended use. I have one but have not used it as I purchased it as part of a package deal from Easy Cook but I don't cook and rarely eat cake. (Marie-Antoinette would be disappointed!winkbiggrin)

I always use the silicone cake tins in my turbo,they work fine as long as you grease it before.smile

This is my roast dinner with yourkshire pudding cooking and yes for cakes the tin with the hole in the middle I have one of those silcon  ones and works quite well.

My son bought me a Casera turbo oven it didn't come with a manual and I have no idea how to use it I tried making a c ake in it the top cooked so did the bottom but the middle was uncooked can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong haven't been game to try anything else in it. Helena.

Helena, you need to cover the cake with foil so the top does not burn and set the temp a little lower than recommended for a fan forced oven, say 160 instead of 180. Often it is just trial and error. Google your turbo oven and they should have instructions and recipes Good luck. Love our turbo oven. Makes the best roast pork with crackling. Glenda

Wayne's World (here in SE Qld) had them on sale for $24.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Bargain - got one for a friend - seems to be the same as the one I paid double that for.
Love my turbo - especially being a single - put everything in - even wrap frozen peas or beans in foil - works a treat. Muffins in the silicone trays come out really nice and moist.
