TY, i really do feel like we fit in.

Been travelling off n on for some 20 years during school holidays. Now its as we please as the kids are adults.

Our Daughter lives in our home while we're on the road for security.

The current year tho ,weve been home for specialists and could be up to possibly march next year [2012]. Then back in the long paddock for us.

Spent the bulk of this year updating our van to solar etc etc during our break.

We are 100% freecampers and will only use a CP if conditions force us. We want for nothing as we're free camp setup.

OH,did i mention i talk a lot ROFL.. Sorry ,ill shut up now.

Cheers Rod

Hi there, welcome. We are due out on the road in January. Have sold up and just want to live our lives travelling.

We have looked at the free camping and admire anyone who does it. Can you tell us more about van set-up and I would worry about security, have you had any issues with hooligans coming to your camp and causing trouble.

Regards

Jeannette and Rick

Hi Jeannette,
Well ,firstly freecamping is a often touchy subject in forums but as you ask ill give you my opinion.

You'll need some sort of available power be it a battery in you van that gets charged by the car when its coupled.
Or a generator and vcharge your van batteries every few days that way.
Or use solar and use a generator IF bad weather requires its use.

We are full solar putting out around 3.4 KW a day,we also use a generator if need be.

It took us the best part of 5 years to afford all this stuff but now its permanent free power.

As for security.
My Opinion is,OR what we do is. we pull into a freecamp, wait till about 3.30 - 4pm and IF your still on your own then you decide "Do i feel comfy on my own"
if you DONT then 4pm gives you daylight to get to the next camp.then you decide again.

in 20 years weve only been on our own a few times [mabye 4] and have never had ANY issues. We oftenb stay a week and see vans come /go but still feel secure.

Simple way is to have LUNCH at a freecamp, look at what its like then see if youd feel comfy overnighting there.

In EVERY freecamp you get outside noises, some scary some logical. but youre ALWAYS safe inside your van.

thats a brief opinion for you. theres heaps of more experienced ppl here that will add or extract to help you.

Go to "You Tube",in the search bar put in rredbeak [thats us] and look at maybe 120 freecamps and see if you could stay for free there versus a CP..

Cheers Rod

Hello Rod and welcome to GNs, glad to see you have finally turned up here.

Same opinion here with free camps.....love them and only use CPs on a needs basis.

We are currently in Cloncurry and about to head south from here.

Cheers B

PS....leave your avatar as it is....it is unique to you.

Welcome Rod & Heidi.

I'm all for free camping too. I couldn't afford to travel if I had to pay for CPs all the time.

Cheers Beth.

Val,YW . They cover most every state and are a unbiassed video, you watch ,make up your own mind. i purposley DONT use audio so i dont steer some to or out of freecamping. just the facts..

Hi Val,
they cover most states and are intended to show each camp AS IS so you decide if its for you or not.

If everyone did a short video we'd quickly have quite a stable of freecamp options..

Cheers Rod

Welcome Rod and Heidi, You will have plenty of fun etc here. I have to agree with you opinion on freecamping totally. Most of us do it the same way. Gives you plenty of time to move on if you feel you have to.

welcome Rod and Heidi, enjoy our little mad-house!

Some of our experience of free-camping is that by 4pm we were so crowded in, we had to wait till others left in the morning before we could leave!
