I voted "fridge" .... but - until it is opened I keep it in the cupboard (narrow, slide-out pantry thingy) but when I open the bottle it lives in the fridge (or if you are a Kiwi - in the frudge

I've had bottles of sauce in the cupboard, opened, for over a year at times. It's never been "not fresh". But each to their own I guess.
I guess another interesting question on this topic would be - for those who keep their sauce in the fridge at home, do you also keep it in the fridge or esky when travelling where fridge space is at a premium?

I think "refrigerate after opening" is simply the manufacturer protecting themselves from any silly litigation. Similar to "dry clean only" on some clothing labels, when they clearly can be washed.
The packaging on some toilet paper brands shows that you should install the roll on the holder with the paper hanging over the top instead of hanging under - that doesn't mean we all do it. Oh no, I hope I haven't inspired another poll

My home-made tomato sauce used to need refrigerating after opening, but no use making preserves now the kids have left home, and the bought stuff will keep well anywhere. Second question... what do you like to eat tomato sauce on? (My answer... scrambled eggs)
What tomato sauce, what temperature and what storage period? Because the salt and acidity are required for it to keep and temperature and time determine what molds have grown. The trend is to reduce added salt.
To keep it out of the fridge I would buy smaller packs from quality manufacturers and use it fast. You can't rely on what takeaways or restaurants do with sauces and so on left on the table and continually refilled.
Now for one of my very few irritations, people who leave the spilled sauce over the bottle and lid. Sic 'em Rover!
Chips is about the only thing I have tomato sauce on, I prefer BBQ, but I don't like either cold...............
Sauce on chips is one of my pet HATES, just disgusting. We used to live in Holland and they have mayonaisse (frites saus) on chips, the best chips in the world.
