Since some day I intend living on road full time I thought I had better do a few longer trips to see if it is really me.
So back in August when my then currant contract expired I declined the NT Governments very kind offer of renewal and said ' see ya in 6 months time'.
I finally pulled out of Darwin in late August, I am touring Tassie until end of January - so far am loving it! Do think that maybe I would like to at least have a caravan/annex or similar some place so that I can stay put for an extended period every now and then, also perhaps take on a bit of work from time to time (please exscuse the 4 letter word there)
Tassie is great!

Hi Annie, great to hear you are enjoying life on the road. I spent a couple of days exploring Port Arthur and it is one of my favourite places. I also spent 5 days over the other side at Strahan and loved all over the there as well especially the Gordon River cruise and the Wilderness Railway trip. Great place Tassie.

Hey Annie and others. Annie do you have any tips on geting to Tassie chaeply? I think I might leave my caravan in storage and just take my ute overwith my beaut dogs.
If you left the dogs in storage Ellen it would nearly pay for the van. On a serious note the cheap way is take the car ($75) and tent and get a deck chair but dont use it. Take a sleeping bag and get up to deck 9 before about 8 oclock and set yourself up on one of the bench seats, (not officially allowed) and after about 10 oclock the security will leave you alone and its a blissful nights sleep until the wake up call just before hitting devonport. I have also used these benches when I have had a cabin because you have nice fresh air there, unlike the stuffy aircon rooms with no veiw. cheers blaze
I'll look out for you Shogun! Me, I am easy to spot Motorhome says it all 'Pawsaroundoz' written across the front!
Elle, I booked well in advance and got my trips for just under $200.00 each way, as I am here for almost 4 months I thought it was worth having the motorhome with me, especially as it is my home! I think it costs a lot more to bring a caravan though so I understand your thinking! Friends have been over with 1 dog for a couple of weeks and had a bit of trouble finding caravan parks that would allow them to rent a on site van or cabin because of their dog. But if you were slepping in the ute or in a tent it should not be a problem.
Definately worth the trip, fantastic place!

I am now setting the ute up for self sufficiency as well. I scored some really cheap 190w solar panels off ebay and am fitting one to the ute canopy along with a 12v fridge so the ute will be set to go. I will get a tent and the doggles and I will be fully independent. I will free camp a lot and also stay with a mate for an extended period.
My current plans are to go over there in Nov 2012 for at least 4 months and I will repeat that annually if all works out.
Mr Blaze you know I would never leave the dogs in storage. Thanks for the tips about setting up the ute. It's all looking good.

Yes I have a quiet chuckle every time I see one of those 'next 3 k's winding road' signs too! I have a theory, I think the roads mob employ someone to pick them up and put them out in different places every day or so! As far as I can work out the only stretches of straight road are on the Midland Highway!
