Best way to get a feed - but not as much pleasure as catching them - I like catching carp they are fun to catch, and it helps clean them out of our river systems.

Nothing to do with fishing, but still a license requirement across the Murray River between Victoria and NSW.
A couple of years ago I was staying the the Moama CP and took a guided tour along the Echuca wharf area. The guide was called 'Buster' - the only name he gave and he had a pet Corolla sitting on his shoulder that would take sunflower seeds from people's tongues as a trick.
Buster told everyone in the party that because the jetties and wharves projected over the water every time he set foot on one he was technically in NSW. He had to get a special license to transport his pet corolla across the state border!
(I might add that another trick the corolla did was every time Buster said 'government' the corolla flopped down and played dead! It did the same when he said 'Collingwood!')
grumpy, you are so right, some great discounts but pays to ask. jimricho, if you own the Murray, how about getting down there and cleaning it out. Fallen trees, logs creating havoc. What an untidy and dirty mess. Its a shame as used to be a great tourist mecca.
The logs and fallen trees provide breeding grounds and a haven from exotic species for the native fish.
If you hold a Centrelink Pensioners card you are exempt from holding a Fishing licence in NSW regardless what state you come from. Just read the rules. It is stated quite clearly. Cheers.
You do not need to purchase a fishing licence to fish in Victoria if you hold a seniors card from any state.
Thats pretty generous considering the fine work that fisheries do in that state.
Wish all the states that require a licence gave reciprocal rights.
None required in Queensland unless you want to fish in a stocked impoundment. I used to travel with a NSW licence just in case but the last 3 year one was wasted money. NSW also have jurisdiction over NSW/Qld border waters which causes some drama. The two states have different size and catch limits so a fish caught from the Qld bank but in NSW waters might be legal at the time of capture but not once landed and transported near a Qld water way. Highly unlikely a person will get into trouble and I've seen emails from QLD DPI that are very non-committal.
I fully agree with fresh water fishing licenses IF the funds raised are used in restocking programmes and educate fishermen / women .
Here is QLD some freshwater dams , weirs are stocked by volunteers with little or no funding.
IF you pay for a permit you name the dam , weir the money is spent on win win for all .
There is no permit required to fish salt water.
SO TIGHT LINES OUT THERE ENJOY.
I fully agree to,fishing licences funds and better management and the removal of professional fishermen from certain areas, have made it a must better environment for family fishing. this is from the local paper today.
