Just rang my son in Biggenden, he said, Yes they have camped at Paradise Dam, he said it was an awesome place an although he can't remember the charge said he didn't think it was very much. He said it only has one long drop toilet that he can remember. Also said Mingo Crossing arond the other side of the same dam is better although he hasn't stayed there. He said it has more amenities, like a block of toilets etc. Couldn't give me anymore details, he was cooking tea, but said the whole area is awesome.
Two possible suggestions are CAW6 #623 Oakey Creek Reserve or CAW6 #745 Leyburn.
Both have huge open areas to park any size rig and both have toilets and both are on creeks.
Leyburn has water and a small shop just across the creek and showers are available up behind the tennis courts for a gold coin fee, fee payable at the local shop. There is also a pub and all within walking distance.
Oakey Creek Res is a short distance from the small township of Bowenville.
Both are free, both are on sealed roads, both are also pet friendly and both allow campfires.
Not a lot of shade at either but in winter I doubt many will be requiring too much shade, especially for anyone with solar panels.
You'd probably get as many as 50 rigs into either place.
It would be a kindness calling Bowenville a township, it is just a half assed shop and bugger all else, but Dalby is only 27 km away and has everything

I think we have to aim at a "best fit" destination as nothing will be perfect for everyone.
I think we have agreed on a) Queensland b) June c) free or low cost d) water to look at (coast, creek, lake or river) e) dog friendly f) easy access - short gravel road ok
g)water (at least for washing)
h) accommodates large vans
Not sure if we have a consensus on area, can only find a couple of comments so post the Qld map again. So far it seems to be area 7 or 8 (but correct me if I'm wrong)
I am only a new member and don't wish to seem presumptious but emailed Paradise Dam about their facilities and costs. Toilets only no shower, shower tents ok. dogs ok usual rules. $7.50 per person per night, $4.50 kids 5-15, under that free. Firewood available at $6.50 per crate (no idea how big the crate is).
Have also emailed Bradley Wolf Braeve Heart Reserve with regards to a get together. Stressed that I was in no way acting in any of official capacity, actually interested for myself anyhow.
Tried to address concerns raised on this forum, i.e. refund policy, big rigs, amenities, pets and costs.
I hope I haven't stepped out of line in these enquiries.
Have been to Darlington Park this year in August. Nice spot though could be cold in June. Plenty of fire pits though. Flush toilets and kiosk with very basic supplies. Although only about 15 mins to Beaudesert which has everything.
Hi Jack Mac welcome to the forum. What exactly is "cold in June" in Queensland................... surely nor the same as in tassie, or Victoria, or NSW. Rosie
Yes Rosie, As I said earlier in the thread, I lived in south brisbane during a winter and nearly froze to death. It was like ice and the inside of the bedroom windows were clogged up with ice and condesation running down the windows by morning. That was in a house, just imagine in a van. Really needs to be a lot further north in my opinion.

Which makes it just about half an hour from my Qld base

Cold in Qld - compared to the southern states - not at all - bit brisk - but for instance I live in SE Qld and only wore a polar fleece jacket maybe twice last winter - long sleeve tops were all I needed - and I have no heting in my house - old queenslander cottage, high ceilings, on stumps - days are wonderful - blue sky sunshine - best climate ever!

I suppose 'cold' is another one of those 'horses for courses'...it depends if you feel it and where you originate from. My d-i-l's Mum lives in Sunbury and says it's not cold in Qld.
3/4 sleeves are all we need during the day, but it starts to get cold around stubby-o'clock when you want to sit out around the fire, and that's when the coughing starts.
Have to agree with you Beth. Nothing wrong with the days, just beautiful. Would rather be up in Qld during the winter than down here. Its just a couple of months and only in the SE corner that I have noticed it that cold. It does get cold down here too but I don't find it cold enough to have an electric blanket or even a hottie, but do use the house heating at night. Up there in those two months I shivered all night like I had frost bite. We are all different and feel things in different ways.
I must add though, that Darlington Park is a great spot. Plenty of room, a lovely running creek. Actually, I think it's the headwaters of the Albert River. My family have been going down there for years, before there were any facilities there.
It also gets very very hot during the summer so Autumn or Spring is the best time to go there.

Western Qld is also very cold at night Marj. Ice on the winscreen in the morning cold. That's why I'd rather head to the coast in June. I've travelled inland the past 2 Junes and said never again! I do admit that I'm a real cold frog though.
I'm not making any suggestions yet, mainly because I don't know Qld that well and also there is months and months ahead to decide. But I am watching every post with interest. I also think somewhere further north would have been better. I do like the look of Darlington Park and will put it on my list of places to visit anyway.
Howdyeeeeee earthlings,,, I have camped at Darlington park heaps of times in , winter and summer,,,,,,put a Jumper on in winter.......sit in the creek in summer,,,,,one of the nicest spots in South East QLD......stay excited ppl...Billeeeee
I overshot the Greens Lake meeting and am not yet in Perth so I missed the get together there.
Hopefully by next winter I will be through the Top End and across in to Queensland and can link up with Billeee again and also attend a Queensland get together.
You will all be very welcome. Jonathan will look forward to hearing more of your singing. Billeeeee will look forward to more of your sense of humour. Yeoeleven look forward to meeting you. If any of you have better ideas than me fire ahead, we are all putting a two bobs worth in.

i) area 7, 8 or 14 on the map.
Ok, so Darlington Park is out.
Boroma suggested CAW6 #623 Oakey Creek Reserve or CAW6 #745 Leyburn.
Jack Mac suggested Paradise Dam.
