Every year say I'm not doing the pudding, and every year I do.

It was mum's recipe, boiled in a cloth, with real thripences and sixpences in. Mum got the recipe from her mum, and she from her's. Its over 120 years old. I suspect every one added a bit, and I throw in macadamia nuts ..... yum.

This year, my sister's grand daughters are coming to learn about it, and of course lick the bowl.

What a great assortment of stories.

We've never done the hot Xmas dinner, way too hot in Qld. Although we did with my in-laws for years.  We have lots of different types of salad, chicken, turkey, ham, pork. My sister makes the plum pud but it's not Mum's recipe, it's her own. She also makes real custard, some of the young ones don't like real custard, go figure, so a shop bought one is there too. Ice cream, fruit salad, trifle, apple pie this year,,,Irish sister-in-law makes a beauty.

We all love prawns, but we don't have them because my daughter is allergic to them. Even a whiff sends her into anaphylactic. One year we had them as a entree, and she had to go around the other side of the house til we'd finished and wrapped up the remains...wasn't worth the effort.

We will be having cold meats, seafood, salads and trifle with lots of sweet sherry in it and of course a nice drop of white wine.

Big white bowl full of cherries, grapes (green and red ones), fresh strawberries, blueberries, rasberries, blackberries, and a whole box of Cadbury Favourites

All mixed together, looks lovely.

I have no doubt our table will have way to much food, there is normally a goose or part there of, ham on the bone and either a lamb or pork roast along with all the roast vegies and trimmings. Desert will be plum pudding, trieffle, icecream and fruit salad. So not only will I over eat on the day but will be eating leftovers for a week. I am yet to convince my wife to come camping and hidew over chrismas and eat seafood and drink beer until the season is over. We will feed about 15 this year for lunch and there will be a gathering in excess of 50 for dinner, trouble with big families (never been a heated arguement yet either)
cheers

absolute favourite MONEY PAVLOVA. remember when we were kids and the fruit cake pudding had 6 pences in it well, I just adjusted that tradition for the pavlova. I wash all the money first then put all different coins in the pavlova and everyone wants a piece and everyone looks to see where the knife cuts into the pav. to try and get a glimpse of the $2 special and of course that's the piece everyone wants. . ps. no 5 cent pieces though, they are a bit small. merry christmas. strop and sharon

The whole shebang - turkey, ham and pork with roasted veges, steamed plum pudding/custard, mince tarts and Christmas cake - and left overs for the next week!!  smilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmile

Unfortunately not sixpences or threepences as they have all disappeared over the years.no
