Now the friggin Computer is playing up something shocking have too send it back....It will not respond too any threats of any description....Just Thought I'd mention it as I seem too have a heap of trouble with this Chinese Crap...Like my Gennie at Greens lake......some will remember what I went through with that after 9 hours Bran new it was too......I realize everything is designed too brake down after a couple of weeks.....But One Video C"Mon

One dvd that should not happen, must still be under warrenty, but it's not good to have to take it back so soon, Asus are a good make, I have 2 24inch monitors linked up together both Asus and both going well.

the other thing you could try, if its only a dvd problem , before sending it back ,as the expert to try a systems restore
and that restores the pc /laptop what ever back to a certain date before it mucked up , or you can restore it right back to
the date you got it, try that before sending it back..

would need a lot more info to try and fix your problem without seeing the unit, what do you mean by "Now the friggin Computer is playing up something shocking have too send it back." what is it doing?

Where there any error message's?

If you get an error message then write it down (all of it) and we can go from there.

Sounds like it is something to do with playing the DVD Jimbo. So soon after buying it, only guessing. Maybe try in on mains power.
Like the photo, little Molly there and Myrtle in the background.

I had an Asus too and had nothing but trouble with it from day one.

When I got the tech out he showed me where they rated laptops and guess where Asus was..................you guessed it, well almost, it was second last.

Had to put up with it cause at that stage couldn't afford another one.

Eventually bought an external dvd/cd player.

Now have a Toshiba and couldn't be happier.  Hope I haven't jinxed myself

Belt it with a hammer, and if that doesn,t work , get a bigger hammer. It mightn,t fix it, but you will feel better after. Bill

Jimbo said it will not respond to any threats so wonder if he might be fairly close to taking to it with the hammer already.

Really pleased with Asus laptops. The driver's is 5 years old. Has survived rough roads, heat, dust, running on battery and inverter etc. Mine is newer but so far no problems.

Have been using ASUS on and off since seeing first laptop in Taiwan in 1991. A bit more information might help diagnose problem.

What media player

What happens if you connect to 240v

Did you ring their help line or email

It's one thing to include all computer problems as "Chinese Crap" when my experience has been 99% of problems are software related mostly from the good ole USA.

I think perhaps it is like most things, you can get a lemon no matter what the brand.

My ASUS is a lemon as well. Every time I start up it goes to the blue screen of death and restarts itself.
AFter a lot of work by a computer nerd it was concluded the mother board must be faulty. So I've just continued to use it as it is, also because I couldn't really afford to replace it.
The time is coming, now that it's more than 3 years old, to replace it.
I do have a remote hard drive to keep everything valuable.
When I plugged everything into this when it was new I lost the wireless broadband dongle, and it had to be replaced. The external hard drive crashed, but I managed to salvage the printer.
Things have been going ok recently, but there are times now that the keys don't respond to touch as they should. Some double up and others miss.
Bloody technology! Just brilliant, when it works.

I bought an apple desk top computer when my other one got zapped in a lightning strike and my son got an apple lap top we have had not a bit of trouble with these computers . The old saying is that you get what you pay for is so right
Things might look cheap at the time but by the time you go through all the hassles of getting things fixed it costs you time and money
Most of the stuff from china is only good for land fill

Hi Glassies

My Daughter is the same as you she has stuck to her old system but has had to have hers cleared of virus infection 3 times even though she has anti virus programs

Our apples seem to be imune to virus attack even though we have no anti vitus programs down loaded.

I think the apple is less likly to crash as well

Over 17 years I'm on my 5th Apple computer & never had a problem with any of them. They are much sturdier built, with a very stable operating system that is a pleasure to use.

As far as I know, there has only been one virus found on a Mac & i never have to even worry about spyware either.

They do cost  more but I believe it's worth it for piece of mind.

Cheers

Jon

ps: If needed I also have the Windows operating system on it that I can boot into instead of the Mac one which comes in handy if someone who isn't Mac literate wants to use my computer.

Being a boiler basher by trade, still makes me think that the hammer fix is the way to go, but , also, that a chisel, will come in handy at times. I have a toshiba laptop, and have had no trouble for 3+ years , so I would definately recomend that brand.Still, the hammer option makes you feel better, afterwoods.............

I have worked in IT for decades (don't ask how many - I remember programming using punch cards) and consequently I have ended up up a number of laptops and an understanding of where much of the technology originates and its strong and weak points.

I currently have four laptops, an ASUS, an Acer, an IBM and a Fujitsu and they all work pretty well and reliably. The Asus is a good performer and the company has a reputation for producing the greyhound of motherboards - it is a great gaming machine for instance. However, the laptop with the most quality evident in everything about it is the Fujitsu Lifebook. Recommended.

Operating systems - I run two different types. The usual Windows OS to allow me to run everything out there and a couple of different flavours of Linux which are pretty much virus free and are lean, fast performers. The Apple OS (which I don't have) is a derivative of the Linux OS, but with added pizzazz in the true Apple tradition. It is the fact that it is based upon Linux, which in turn is based upon the stable System V Release IV Unix platform, that allows it to be relatively virus free.

People often ask for advice on computers, but there is no universal answer as it depends upon what you want to use the machine for as well as your level of expertise. However, for the vast majority of people who simply want a computer that just works I'd recommend getting an Apple of some description. Yes, you will be bound by whatever Apple thinks is a good idea, but they do virtually everything most people would want to do and they do it simply and intuitively.
