severe weather warning for Queensland's north-west

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Queensland's north-west, as heavy rains and lightning move inland.

The bureau says remote locations including Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Camooweal, Dajarra Hotel, Duchess Hotel, Kamilaroi Station, Riversleigh Station, Selwyn and Mckinlay Roadhouse might be affected by flash flooding as the storms pick up over the morning.

Emergency services are urging residents to stay indoors, to avoid driving near floodwaters and to be careful around powerlines and large trees.

There are flood warnings for the Upper Condamine, Balonne and Maranoa Rivers and various other rivers in western Queensland.

Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected to move over the Channel Country district, clearing to the east during the day.

Showers and thunderstorms have also been forecast across the remainder of the state
