On my way to the west of SA today I was hammered by a raging thunderstorm just west of the tanks, towards Iron Knob turn-off.
Three flashes of lightning took off from the same spot just to the south. Visibility was minimal and the traffic could only travel at 60kph. The wind was horrendous across the road from SW. Flash flooding was a definite possibility.
There were several other storm cells across the Eyre Peninsula region all day but luckily I missed or slipped between them. At one stage it looked like midnight at 4pm. My friend in Pt. Augusta measured 35mm in 1 hr. That shuts Yorkeys Crossing for us on the way back, but it may be dry by Tuesday when I anticipate we'll be back that way.
It's settled down now and I settle in at the Penong Caravan Park for the night, and a catch up with a mate who inhabits this area. Several mallee trees were uprooted on the roadside between Ceduna and Penong.
It was a beauty, and very noisy.
Stay safe folks. There's rain and storms all around the country.

Still raining in Mt Gambier. I drove home this afternoon from Ararat, 3 kms from Dartmoor the temp dropped from 33 - 19 by the time I got to Dartmoor. The road into the Mount was horrendous with water and debris everywhere. Road very slippery, and that is in a sedan car. Hope anybody travelling in the South East is safe.
