sorry..... we dont cook turkey... my lot never took to it and I could not possibly eat one myself LOLOLOLOL.. they prefer ham and ham and more ham for xmas... hope you find one.. have you tried looking up some on the net? or has anyone you know have a CWA cook book... those ladies really know how to cook!!!!!
Thaw it for three days in the bottom of the fridge
Use a large oven bag, put a tablespoon of flour in the bottom of bag
for stuffing use a loaf of fairly stale bread, chopped onion, peel and apple and grate it, a pinch of mixed herbs and an egg.
Mix it all together with enough milk to bind it all together.
Stuff it in the cavity of the turkey and also under the breast skin.
Bake it for the time according to what is on the bag the turkey comes in or if it has a little red button thingy stuck into it, take it out of the oven as soon as the red button pops up.
If you don't have in a bag with directions, then allow 25 minutes per kilo plus a further 30 mins and take out of oven as soon as that time is up.
I watched Gordon Ramsay on TV the other day doing his home Xmas dinner with his family. With his turkey, he lifted the skin to push in butter and spread it around. I think there was something mixed in the butter. Some sort of herbs. He also put bacon strips over the top to keep it moist as well. I don't think he made a bread stuffing, it was more like lemons and onions. After cooking he said it must sit for 2 and half hours which I think was about the same time he cooked it for. To set the juices etc. Then he chopped up the bacon that had been laid over the top and popped it into the cooking pan with the other juices to make the gravy.
Last turkey we had was free range, mate offered me half of one he had been given. Cut the frozen bird in half with the power saw. It was the fattiest turkey I had ever seen but was still very nice. Be aware also that turkey meat will accually bring on drowsiness so be aware. cheers blaze
Of course its the turkey which makes you drowsy Blaze, nothing to do with the dinner wine? And for Mum, nothing to do with exaustion after slaving over a hot stove all day?
Thanks guys- I reckon it will be worth a drink or too, or 4 if the weather warms up!
Not sure about the calories and cholesterol in the version with the butter and bacon- maybe another few drinks will flush it out of the system. Might ask my GP.
