Never tried this but want to at some stage. looks great. Love crafts. At the moment are in to weaving with natural materials, e.g. pine needles and whatever I can pick up.
It took about 2 weeks, just chipping away at it. Once I get started it just flows, mind you I have to source the pictures, retro ladies, flowers etc and then I have to theme it a bit, what goes where. I enjoy it because it takes my mind off whatever, and I can focus on creating something.

ooh hello fellow crafters, especially spinners, I have just dyed wool for my first time and spun it, now I have a sock an a 1/2 done - can't beleive my sock fits and actually looks like a sock, very unique pair they will be. Plan to hot foot it with them in Tassie :-0
Love your decoupage Lynne. So bright and cheerful. Like others here I make necklaces and love fossicking too. Sell the odd piece but give loads away too. It's more about the process than the money.
Thats exactly right, many a time my decoupage or knitting as saved my sanity, its been a rough trot the last 4 years, and I am not the most patient of people, so I decided to tap in and see if I had any talent for anything, I find if I enjoy something am usually better than average. Its taken a long time to boost the self-esteem that I was robbed of for many years. Do you know what weaving with pine needles is about?
Weaving pine needles? Wow what a thought. There is a woman in Gippsland Victoria where I used to live who has written a book about weaving from natural fibres. I think her name is Dale Marsh - she sometimes writes articles in Grass Roots Magazine. She uses the fibres to make baskets, bowls and platters rather like traditional indigenous basket work. I guess if you got really clever it you could weave shopping bags and the like. The technique looks like bunches of needles, straw or grasses have been lashed or sewn together then bent into a shape. It's hard to describe in words - maybe check out rafia baskets online to see what I mean.
Weaving from natural fibres reminds me of an art piece i saw years ago. Some aboriginal women had woven a lifesize ute from rushes. It looked incredible. I guess with craft work the only limit is all your imagination.
Please enlighten me on weaving with pine needles, and natural materials, sounds very interesting.
My Grandaughters and I collected some long Silky Oak Needles, some feathers and some nuts from the park and I taught them to weave a couple of small baskets. The eldest girl then went on to make her own things, like a hanging ornament. Picture posted is what I made yesterday, I am a learner so it's not perfect! Very enjoyable though

Have you finished now Lynette? Bet it looks great.
Lovely stuff everyone! I don't have the time or patience for that sort of craft unless I'm sick or unable to get out and about. That's how my writing got started. I just love writing. I also love embroidery. Nothing spectacular, just the simple old-fashioned embroidery. I haven't done any since my back surgery recovery, but I have some projects on the back burner for future reference. Keep up the good work folks. If you have the space and time it's a great way to be productive with a very satisfying past-time. I find craft materials and the finished products take up so much room and there isn't enough room under my bed in the van. Even if I give them away as gifts, the whole thing takes up a lot of space and time.
