Here is the old subject again, chemicals or napisan.
We were using napisan (Coles generic) for both 1s and 2s with great success, were in a small town with no coleds so purchased black & gold version and it did not work at all (phew stinky)
So went back to chemicals, tried a few Thetford, Coleman, Walex sachets, all ok but still smelly.
Bit the bullet and went back to coles and got the generic nappy wash $2.49 and guess what NO SMELL works a treat, so in future it is the Coles generic for us, we find that this one really works.

Thanks for that...I just purchased a yellow and gold yesterday..as I have been using my top shelf nappy san from home..and it does work, but a tad expensive...off to coles...ha ha
So forgive me if I sound dumb, but do you put napisan in the toilet and how much at a time?? Still trying to sell house so I can get out there, so still learning.

You need one with 34 per cent active ingredient I forgotten what it's called. Usually Coles or Woolies own brands.
I mix a capfull in about a litre of warm water to dissolve it and tip into the lower tank. Mine is a 10 litre so a 20 litre may need a bit more. I usually empty it every 3-4 days and don't have a problem with any smell
thank you for your prompt replies, since we are on toilets, what is the best make???? I have got so much information from this wonderful site, can't sell quick enough so I can go and buy a rig!!! and get to meet you all!!!
Among my dramas today. The toilet, with all the bumping around on the Dubbo to Goondiwindi road , has literally blown the seal off. Lesson, don't add too much napisan. I consider I got off lightly , came across a couple with a badly mangled axle on their caravan. Had been waiting in the heat for four four hours for a tow.

I got mine from Big W, 10 litres but they also have 20 litres as well. I think it was around 80.00
Big W have quite a good camping section.
This week they have those yellow jump starters, is that what they are called. Also has 2 USB ports and 2 12 volt ports, as well as the jump starters , and some other bits and pieces for 69.00. I'm getting one tomorrow.
Oh geez Mel, thats bad luck. I didn't know that could happen from using too much napisan. Did it froth up and cause pressure. Take care, you don't have to much further to go, hope Molly is enjoying the trip.

There is another consideration re the Porta Potties.
Some are quite small, ie very close to the ground, which if you have a bad back or knees for example, can be a problem when trying to squat, plus they do not have a large capacity thus need more frequent emptying.
Then on the other hand the larger models, with the larger capacity 20lt=20kg, can be very heavy to lift if filled to capacity.
That looks a great idea. Just as easy would be a stool, one of the little step stools. But don't leave it on there while travelling. Mine is a 10 litre as easier for carrying, is a bit low so might have to try that at night.
The active ingredient is Sodium Percarbonate and 34 % is the highest content in both Woolies and Coles brands of Generic NAPPY SOAKER.
I use a heaped cap full dissolved in 1/2 to 1 litre of warm water (Not hot) and put it into the cassette. For heavy use I top up with a small cap full every day or two as required.
I also use it to clean the bowl......partially fill the bowl with water and sprinkle a little nappy soaker in the bowl and let it stand overnight. This same action will also remove any leftover marks in the toilet bowl.

Someone was telling me and I haven't had time to check it out, that Godfreys (the vacuum people) sel a nappy soaker with a very high (almost 50%) sodium percarbonate content

Could be worth a look Brian....the cost could be the deciding factor here.
3kg of woolies for $8.99 is pretty hard to beat. Let us know what you find out.

I am going over to the hyperdome at Logan tomorrow and I think there is a Godfreys there, but the important thing is the high percarbonate content, worth a little extra methinks
